This is a totally subjective question. As long as you can complete the work, one brand isn't really better than another.

For what specific purpose? Adobe stuff is generally the industry standard no matter what you are doing. But what specifically?

and yet, there are MANY creative professionals on these boards who would argue that Corel is the "best" package for the same work. It's really a matter of preference.

For logos, if you just started in grephics, corel draw is the easiest to learn and use.
For pixel work (images) photoshop is the most used program, but the Photopaint in Corel package is a powerfull software if used right.
Fot multi-page layouts InDesign is definately the tool, but freehand might work as well, quark too.
For 3D 3D Studio Max.

What you chose is completely up to you. It's all a matter of personal preference.

I will say this for 3D applications. Maya is probably the most widely used followed by 3d Studio Max but no one ever mentions SoftImage. It's every bit as good of an application as Maya. I will warn you that it has a real turd of a learning curve.

If you want to do industrial design, check out Alias Design Studio. It comes with a lot of engineering analysis tools to compliment it's 3d tools. Maya evolved from this program.

There are many many more applications out there for doind 3D work. Check out the 3D software discussions here:

There is nothing like the best app, or say the best app will be the app that your most comfortabel with, so go to their site and download there demo's and try them out. But just remember if you are planning to get a career for 3d you have to consider which app to learn.

I don't necessarily agree with Takayuki here. If you are going to get into this field it really doesn't matter which app you learn.

I've met with several companies who hire for 3d work and have several friends working in the industry and the general consensus is that they don't want button pushers and the software doesn't matter. One guy told me "We can teach a monkey to use software and only have to pay it with bananas. We want people who have artistic ability."

My advice if you want to get into 3d is this. Pick a package, ANY package, and learn is well. REALLY well. Learn the basics and theory about 3D. Learn how to model using NURB and polygons. Master lighting. There is more to it than just clicking a few buttons and *poof* you have a pretty picture. Also, learn some scripting languages.

Most of all, LEARN TO DRAW!!! This is more important than anything.
