He was in the brothers garcia, he played Carlos. He recently was in a couple Joan of Arcadia eps. He'll be in a new movie called Mysterious Skins. I love him.:)

I like the background, the tones, textures, stains etc. The cutouts are too soft though.

Photoshop is a hard program to learn, you are doing well for someone who is new to the program.
I agree with LeeIs - the background is really neat! But you might want to check out these tutorials on removing backgrounds from around a person or subject to get a sharper image without cutting off the top of his head. It's tricky, but practice makes better.

Hey, you gotta start somewhere! I think everygraphic designer during there first 2 mo of using photoshop wasnt that good. I know i wasnt. It took me about 3yrs to really start feeling confident with my work. Hang in there, Theres alot of good photoshop books available on Amazon.com, I personally like the WOW series (thats me though). Dont give up though youll get better in time!

I think the background shows some good PS work, but I have no idea who this guy is and how the background relates to him. Does he work as a typesetter? When you design things like this consider how the background relates to the forground not only visually but contexually as well. Oh and don't cut off peoples heads unless you have a good reason for doing it.

I love the background! I think the selections you made to cut or copy the person from the original picture were too feathered, leaving a large area around the person too soft. There are lots of tutorials on how to do it well, and I'm sure Morea posted some good ones for you.

I like the bacround, Jeff Licon has nothing to really do with it though, I guess...becuase hes not a typesetter. Hes an actor.

LOL at Mynock.
Sailed I think you will see that a few people "liked" the background. All I'm saying is consider the relationship of the subject with the background. Maybe you could use that background in another design to which it is more appropriate and maybe you could create a similar background with movie imagry to use with this design. You've got a good start keep going.

Sailed.
The background is awesome. Giving age to an image always brings us out of the computered, cleaned, generated graphics that are so much easier to make. This is a great image. I think you got your message of pretty good. As soon as I looked at the image I was instantly drawn to "who the hell is this, is it a CD cover for the next pop singer, etc" I believe one image of him does the trick better.
Pick a stance that think is interesting and compensates the background mood and run with one. That way, we get more background which is great, and one solid image of the foreground character.
keep up the creativity.

I'd say it's the best piece you've posted so far, definitely shows improvement.
But I will say this - this kid looks like Julia Roberts, and that freaks me out.
