Just installed Quark 6.0 and when exporting my layout to PDF I get an error pop-up that says a postscript printer needs to be set up to print a file in order to export to PDF. Is there a way to do that? Is this a bug? Or is my version damaged?

You need to select a postscript ppd.

Uh, you also need to upgrade to at least 6.1. You can go to 6.5 for free. Downloadable from the Quark site. There are also a couple of free plug-ins you should get too. The high-res viewer for one.

thats brilliant thanks - downloading! :)
will the 6.1 update have the PDF filter included or do I have to download that separately? any other plug-ins you would recommend?

gutted. after downloading the update it said my version could not be updated and stopped working with a severe pop-up.

That should not have happened. If the update crashed your Quark 6 there is something wrong with your Quark 6 or the update. You'll need to call tech support if you're locked out. They've actually gotten better at answering the phone and have been really helpful lately.

Were you perchance running a demo? Then of course you wouldn't be able to save or print in any format. Demos of Quark don't allow it.

There's at least one other reason this could happen which I am ignoring for the moment

Methinks youthful_implants may have just joined the long list of 'bungee members'... or should that be nano-posters? Hopefully, we're both wrong on this one PD... but it's funny how you can almost smell 'em after awhile, eh?

The only other thing I remember is that the Quark version 6 had to be activated before it could be updated. Even a legal copy. If it wasn't activated, the update wouldn't take. But it would only go back to the first page of the installer. Not stop working with a 'severe pop-up'.
The fix was to delete Quark 6. Reinstall. Activate. Update. Do pdf patch update. Run Repair permissions...

You have to update to 6.1 to get to 6.5 anyway. A lot of people had trouble with that 6.1. But none had it kill 6.0 that I know of.

Adobe Acrobat. (not the reader, but the full version)
