Man I knew this would happen! So as you guys know i recently got my RebelXT and love it and i was eager to get a Zoom Lense so I picked up a Sigma 70-300mm APO Macro DG. As a consumer lens, it's an all around good camera for starting off but i'm already yearning for quality and sharpness. The Sigma just doesn't do the XT justice. Well, if you think about it, the XT cost me $1200CAD and it's got a $350 lens on it.....not good. Sure I can always do some photoshoping but I rather have a good quality lens that's sharp. I also want to do less post production if possible.

So now i find myself looking for a quality lens and many have recommended the Canon 70-200mm f.4 L, new here in Canada it's around $800 and up after taxes it'l be close to a grand! the other "L" series lenses are just way too expenssive for me right now. So i did some searching and found someone willing to sell it for $500US only 2 months old and very good condition. Most likely i'll be picking it up because this lens will meet my needs and maybe even help me get some minor photography jobs on the side. It is also within my budget.

It sure is an expenssive hobby but hopefully it'll make me some money on the side. It's an addicting road, but i enjoy every bit of it. :)

Sorry to hear about the zoom lens. You should have asked about it first. I could have told you it wasn't worth it if you were going for pro quality.

Sigma, tamron, etc. also make pro quality lenses. You may want to investigate those too, but $500.00 for the Canon 70-200mm f.4 L is a good find.

Yes. Very expensive hobby. The camera body is the cheapest component. My advice to you would be make sure you love Canon cameras before you invest too much in lenses.

Actually Steve, i wasn't at first going for that type of quality, but i've had some side offers that got me thinking i needed something more. Don't get me wrong it's still a good lens to start with and learn from. I knew that i was buying a "consumer" lens, i read all the reviews and did alot of research, it was just the offers that got me thinking. In regards to Canon's i'm very satisfied with the XT and hope to one day upgrade to a 20D or whatever is the next upgrade in line...i doubt i'd ever get one of those Mark II or MKII cameras:D

A friend of mine has the 70-200 f.4 L and a 28-135 IS one, they are both great lenses. The only thing i don't like about the canon line is that they are so damn expenssive!

I have the "old-school" digital rebel. 300D. Love it. My workhorse lens is the:

Tamron Lenses: SP AF28-75MM F/2.8 XR Di (http://www.tamron.com/lenses/prod/2875mm.asp)

Another lens you should definitely pick up, if you want to do some portrait work is the Canon 50mm f/1.8 (http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=152&modelid=7306). Only $99.00. It's pro counterpart is the Canon 50mm f/1.4, but from what I hear, the difference is negligible and not worth the extra cost of the f/1.4.

yes i've heard god things about that lense and may get it as well, but from what i hear the 70-200mm is just as good. But still the 50mm should be good for portraits as you said.

As I've already mentioned I was able to get this lens second hand at a decent price, and now i've been informed that the guy i bought it from put up the extra cash to send it to me for next day service. So it should be here some time today!!!!!

Man i haven't been this excited for awhile:lol: I think i'm more excited getting this lens than when i got my XT:lol:.

I'll share my first pics with it for sure :).

the wait is killing me, estimated time of arrival, 12:00pm est:rolleyes:
