When scanning a full color item with text that will be separated for printing full color, is there any way to scan and keep black text from separating on all CMYK plates? It seems to me that there isn't a way, but I want to besure there's not a technique that I don't know about.
Any suggestions are appreciated

yes, once its scanned in CMYK in photoshop go inoto your Color Channels and take out the text of every channel except the K.

After you have scanned it you need to assign it a custom color profile in PhotoShop. Here's whet you do:

From the menu: Image/mode/convert to profile

Choose 'custom cmyk' and in the pop up choose 'Maximum' for black ink generation.

This will make all the black 100% black instead of the mix that just converting from RGB to CMYK generates.

I used both suggestions together, I assigned a profile and adjusted the black ink generation to Maximum and that eliminated most of the black from the other plates, but not enough to send it to press. It was enough, however, to make adjustments in channels to get rid of the remaining black on the cmy plates. It's too bad I can't see it printed though...they already decided to run it bw...but that's cool...I learned somethin new, thx
