I was looking into getting an iPod Nano and was told they offer a 10% discount on it on Apple.com if you are a student. What's the fine print on that? Do you need to prove your status as a student of the school? I didn't see any clarification of what I need, other than typing in a zip code and picking the school.

How does that work? If I'm taking a continuing education class this fall, does that count?

yeah on-line its an "on your honor" system, if the school you are taking continuing education through is registered with apple (comes up when you typed in your zip code) then you are all legit. You can also go into an apple store, and you just need to show them some form of proof you are an educator or student... i.d., class schedule, letter of acceptance, basically anything with your name and the schools name on it will work. Or like me, when i worked there, I'd just trust ya (if you were a cute college girl)... old grumpy men had to have 3 forms of id, and a phone call from the president for proof

If you still have a student ID you're golden. They're not going to send a Secret Apple Detective to check up on you.

Sweet! Wish I would have known that before I bought a PC! I'd have gotten a MAC a couple years ago with the discount...

Wonder how I can drop hints to my wife to get the nano for me for my birthday with the discount...

if she's gonna get it for ya make sure she does it on line, some mac specialists can be kind dumb about using a student discount on gifts...

and DY is right, we never actually checked how current someone's ID was, if they had one on them they got a discount

I think the sales tax savings alone make it worth getting online, if shipping is free.

At least, I think shipping was free, I could be wrong.

you don't save on sales tax, the apple store charges sales tax according to your state (except i've heard a rumor that if you don't have an apple store in your state that they don't charge sales tax, but a women from north dakota proved us differently at mall of america store one day)

the used to not, so that would have made sense, but now you may as well go to the store so you can have it now!

Hmm... good point. Didn't know they charge sales tax. Why doesn't Amazon?

I think the closest Apple store for me is 35 miles away, so I may as well have her get me one on line. Maybe....

With my luck, they'll sell out before she gets a chance to buy me one.

lol, they pushed back the availability to 5-7 days on the 4GB, though the 2GB is still shipping within 24hours... but they are hot no doubt

I got my emac and the Office 2004 education package (i know, i know... it's for the wife, we swears it!) back in Feb with the discount on a promise of studenthood.

conversly, when we got our iBook/ipod mini recently, they required seeing the ID (luckily Ashlie had just gotten hers for Grad school). I think it was b/c of the promotion, tho.

Personally, I am waiting for the i-flea.

To be even cheaper, I get my shuffle in couple of weeks for creating a new bank account. Hopefully that will curb my drool until I can afford a real i-pod
