Ever have a day where you're feeling dumb and no matter how hard you try to learn something, it sticks like a celebrity's marriage? I've been having this problem the whole week and I don't know why.

I feel like a bum. Maybe having no interesting and inspiring projects to work on might have something to do with it, I don't know. I'm currently working on one I'm not really enjoying at all. I created some designs I originally liked but lost interest in -- however, my client really likes one of them and doesn't want me to change it in any big way. This really grates on my perfectionistic mind. I probably shouldn't have taken on the project in the first place.

Someone call Dear Abby. I need advice.

Earlier today I was listening to a podcast from Franklin McMahon - Media Artist Secrets, http://www.fmstudio.com/blog/index.html I think it was episode #38, about fear. Toward the end of it he brought up some very valid points that not everything has to be perfect and about seeing the good in your work and not focusing on the negative. Subscribe to this podcast if you have not - he is definitely worth a listen.

Edit:
Also you can always post it in the showcase - maybe a fresh set of eyes can either tell you if the logos really suck or if you are just being overly critical of your own work.

I'll give it a listen soon.

I've put up the draft. Maybe you guys can think of something. http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10977

I feel dumb every day lately.
That's because I've been put on muscle relaxants and steroids in an attempt to help my back heal. The relaxants kill me - I have a hard time staying awake, and being at all lucid! The steroids blur my vision and make my face all flushed. Yuk. One more week... I just hope it works!

Hey, greyghost, what's wrong with your back? I'm no massage therapist, but I've learned a thing or two on intuition and trial and error and people are very fond of my treatments.

I herniated a disk and tore a ligament. 2 separate incidents... but they don't help each other! The disk herniated while we're remodeling, and the ligament is from my 60 lb dog freaking out at dogs that were coming at us. Before that, walking made my back feel better. Now it just screws it up more.

And my massage therapist has suddenly left town. :(

Oh no. :( I can feel your pain coming right through this computer monitor. Back pain is the WORST. I had a back spasm a couple years ago, it brought me to my knees, sobbed like a baby, couldn't sleep.

I hope you feel better.

Ouch. Sounds serious, but I believe you'll recover.

In the meantime, I recommend having your significant other give you a good, thorough back rub for a least a week for maybe 10 minutes per day. Try to stay away from working in the same position too much unless it's clearly therapeutic.

Too much time working at a computer can overdevelop the small arm muscles and put strain on the back. I've done it before and it's something to watch out for.

Hope you feel better soon!

I have a good one.

Last week was so bizzare that I started work on a project Thursday and finished Monday--and basically only ate and slept in between. By the end, I had lost all sense of time and being.

So I pull into Amigos to get their Saturday special and the drive through guy tells me that he cant give me the Saturday special coz its not Saturday.

Confused, I look at my watch and its after 12 so I figure they make it Sunday after 12am. So I go "Im sorry, I didnt realize it was after 12, Ill just get the Sunday special".

The guy pauses, sighs and says "Its Monday, today"

*Smacks head*

Ha! I think we've all done something like that before. All our training and intellectualizing is no match for the flaws of our humanity.

Yeah, I got spasms after Cookie yanked on me that morning. By afternoon I could barely move, and then they got so bad I could NOT move, it hurt so bad, I had tears running down my cheeks. My hubby wanted to take me to a hospital, but at the time I had no idea how I could even get into a car! It was badbadbad.

Next week I go in for an MRI to make sure things are going better. I'm getting more concerned because I am starting to get a stabbing pain down the back of my leg, which could mean the disk actually is rupturing, which would require surgery.

I cannot sit for long (that should be the disk) but have been using my laptop while lying down in order to get work done.

GreenThumb - funny story!
