I don't like the '...' I want you to finish your thought dammit! :) But damn, if you didn't find the poster child for your CD title...

hey thanks, yeah she kinda fell into my lap, unintentionally. Anyways I moved the text up into the black box now, and the reason for the parenthesis is because that is the title of the CD, should I take it out you think?

love the photo, dislike the design. it's too...plain. too generic.
you want to break away from the 'locally produced' look, ya feel me?

i got faith.

i think its a really great concept, and layout!!! i do also think it needs more 'interest,' kinda seems like its in comp stages.
maybe, instead of just solid colors for the bars. make them more metallic looking... or maybe change the color of them and play around with the 'satin' effect.... add some drop shadows (faint)...
and i think the photo needs to have a main focal point, right now it kinda the focal point is the whole photo...try a large radial-masked Gaussian Blur coming in round her face and chest area (don't over do the blur, just barly enough to be noticed)....my 2 cents.

other than that, its really great! good job d-frag!

Do you have an updated pic? I'd like to see the title in the black area on the left, the subtitle in the grey area on the right. And maybe in the nice boxes you've made on the left instead of using the same pic either A) put in different close-ups of the image or 2) put in other images but they'd all need to be abstract. You wouldn't want someone looking at it and going, what the hell are those things? and paying too much attention to it.

But, I too, am a fan of the less is more arena.

Hey thanks alot for all the comments, and I see where you guys think it needs more, im kinda leaning on the whole less is more thing too....im more for contempory, retro, kinda feel for design.....yes it may be boring, but if you look at apples stuff its all really plain, using color as the mood. Anyways im uploading all of the CD, yes its very repetitive but if you read my first post I did each of these pieces in like 10 minutes...literally. But the good news is I handed a bunch of these out last nite, and the printing almost turned out to look metallic, so the grey and black really shine (I used a 10pt cover gloss stock, with a satin back) Anyways long story short, im happy with it for it only taking me a half hour total. Thanks again for the crits, comments.

Just for you Benjo!!

on the cover:

like the new text placement. dislike the placement of the e-mail address.
dislike the font for 'D-Frag'. still looks...i can't describe it.

on the CD:

like it. wouldn't change it.

on the back cover:

dislike the track listing. the opaque box with text has been really over done.
try taking out the color bars...or leaving them in. do a gradient light gray to
transparency and just typing in the tracks (in the same font as your album title)
on the left hand side, leaving the photo still visible?

like i said, i got faith.

here's an example of what i mean by looking less 'locally produced'
and looking more mainstream. ben is a great friend of mine who went
to a friend's house, recorded some songs on his computer using Cool Edit Pro,
had me design an album cover, used said album to get signed at a small label.

believe me, the album cover helps out a lot.

xosteve - great point about the cover's importance, and I was really impressed with the cover you created.

D-Frag - Loved the image... The cover isgonna be the main reason people outside of your genre of music will even bother picking your CD off the shelves. The layouts and theback cover are great too, butyou can try mixing up that image of the old lady. (photoshop filters, or better yet, if you can get her in another position)Using the same image on front/back/and CD can be a bit much.... or eventrymoving the song titles so they don't cover her up. You have the entire right side to work with. When you cover her up, you leave empty space on the left that makes the image look un-balanced.Just a thought.... like what you've done so far, and I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Ha! Good stuff you really are throwing the witt down with this design. Are you a producer? What's the musical background?
