I've been tasked by my supervisor to make suggestions on job flow in our in-house Art//Creative Department. The department handles everything from trade show booths to brochures to Web graphics and production.

We have literaly thousands of jobs running through the department and would like to find the best way to divy up the work.

Does anyone have advice on where I can look for ideas, books, etc?

For example:
Traditionally, an ad or design agency will have a staff of art directors, a staff of graphic designers, and a staff of production designers. The job then moves from person to person.

Most everyone in our department can handle doing all three of these jobs individually. So currently we have one person take the job from beginning to end. Its seems to move rather quickly that way, but at what cost to quality?

Is the traditional job flow the best?

Another example: Incentives to improve productivity.
My supervisor suggested teaming individuals and the art/creative department with the Brand Managers. If sales go up a certain percentage, they reap some commission. The question is, will the artist become bored working on just one product brand? Is this effective?

Hey I'd like the answer to that too!
