Hey, I want to set up a website to sell something. Is there any way I could do that without a credit card and at my age?

you could use free hosting, but it usually has ads on the page that you can't control.

Can't you hook it up though a savings or checking account?

Maybe. But I think you still need a credit card if your checking or savings account can't payout.

Yeah, you don't need a credit card if you wire it to your checking acct. However, at 13, it is really difficult to get a checking acct.

You can't enter into a binding contract at 13. You are gonna have to get a legal adult to co-sign.

Oh, I can get a checking account at my local bank.

Since you won't tell me wacha sellin' I will have to speculate. Let me know if I am close.
Buttons & Wallpaper?
Your My Little Pony Collection?
Stolen Office Supplies?
Bootlegged Software, Music, & Movies?
Are you making a virtual lemonade stand?
Things you find on the street?
Illegal Chinese immigrants for slave labor here in the U.S.?

Haha. You usually can't sell anything unless you have a credit card. Or you can just say here is my address send me a check or money order and I promise to send you the ponies.

actually, you don't need credit cards to sell, last i checked, you only use them to buy. if you're gonna use paypal, all you need is a bank account. if you're 13, which you are, you'll need parental consent to conduct business, use contracts and such.

LOL@ D-frag!
<hard to talk while biting tongue, eh bud?>

GD's should use contracts though and he ain't old enough. First deal that falls thru he'll be asking advice on how to get money from a deadbeat client on a boned contract. Can't register a business either.

But we are all jumping to conclusions. All he wants to do is 'sell stuff'. Maybe he should use Craigslist?

Don't forget that Uncle Sam will want his part of your sales.

Pretty adventurous for a 13 year old. If you're hell-bent on selling something, either design something that people HAVE to have (I've done car decals for a particular industry of people) or just sell random stuff on eBay. You can buy/sell books on Amazon as well. I sell my textbooks on there and if I bought the textbook used on Amazon to begin with, I usually break even.

Keep in mind that if you're going to list products through your own website you're going to have to invest a lot of time/sometimes money in advertising.

But I do like the idea of making buttons for websites. You'd do well at that (and can even sell them on eBay!).

Oooh! I have one!

Virtual pet website! Only a $25 registration fee to train your virtual pets to fight text style against other players' pets, eat imaginary food and poop imaginary feces. What a bargain!

But seriously.

That might not be too far off Jack. With successes like Nintendogs, Sims series and subscription based online MMORPG's like Everquest and WoW it's only a matter of time before they try to join the two together. Quick patent the idea now and wait until someone else creates the game. Wait until it is unbelievably popular and then sue the hell out of them and make millions :D

For a tutorial on how to do this research Forgent Networks and their patent on JPEG.

Virtual pets on the internet have already been invented. Saddest thing I've ever seen.

Sell ad space on your forehead - there was a little girl doing that I read who was 11 years old. Except it was on her bookbag.

Hell, I'd sport Nikes if they paid me to do it.

I'd recommend that he do the same thing I did when I was 13.

Play some Super Nintendo games.

If your hosting services is free, it won't be for long once they find out that you are using it for a merchant account. They'll want you to start paying for the web space.

If you want to accept credit cards check out PayPal or some other service - preferably some other service. Be careful because PayPal's security is severly lacking! I got bit hard by a hacker and PayPal refuses to correct the problem even though I've proven it wasn't me and they admit it wasn't my fault.
