D-Frag you are a bit of a conspiracy nut......think the RIAA is behind this?

Well the RIAA have been known to employee tech to flood p2p networks with duplicates.

I know, I wouldn't put it past them. They want to raise the price of an itunes song up to $1.29, but if they do that people are going to flock back to p2p networks. If there is a threat of a virus it might stem some of the converters.

Music execs threaten to pull the plug on itunes (http://apple.slashdot.org/apple/05/09/30/2037203.shtml?tid=98&tid=187&tid=3)

Greedy Bastards.... It's not like the money is going to the artists. I know some recorded artists and they sure as hell aren't making any money. Not since the days after the big labels all merged and tons of acts got dropped. Poor Mr. Jobs, 500 million downloads @ .99 and they still wanna shaft him when the contract comes up for renewal.

Give them an inch and they'll chew his arm off. He should shut down iTunes Music Store completely and see how they like it.

We print for RIAA and some of the dragconian rubbish they print pisses me off. I remember when cassette tapes came out (remember 8 track tapes anyone?) and RIAA freaked cause it would allow folks to copy songs anywhere anytime and even from the radio. They took it to court and lost. When CDs came out they were very happy cause who can copy CDs! Long story short--computers became faster more powerful, compression programs where invented and the shit hit RIAA in the ass. This association just doesn't get it. The only plan they have is to use the Congress of the USA to legislate laws that is very hard to enforce. Technology is what's changing the landscape in the record and movie industries, times have changed but for some reason RIAA has no plan or forthought and never did. I do believe RIAA had some input in apple making mp4s that only can be used a few times, which by the way you can get around like everything else. Congressman Orin Hatch said that if he had his way he would put a virus in downloaded mp3s that would blow up peoples' computers! My complaint to these cry babies is that they have no vision or a marketable plan at all.

FUÇK the RIAA. And FUÇK MP3 viruses. This is bullshit. Sometimes MP3 downloading is lawful. For example, if I buy an album on vinyl, but I want the album on my iPod or computer and don't feel like ripping the album myself (because it's a pain in the ass!), I should be able to download the music as a convenience. After all, I've paid for the music, haven't I?

I have over a thousand albums and tapes. I have thought of digitizing some of my collection and did some reading and no you are not allowed to download mp3s from file sharing internet sites unless you pay. Even if you bought the same music in another format. The ruling in the cassette tape court cases said it was ok for people to copy music if it was for your use only and that you did not make money from it. The court also said that you can give friends (small circle) copies of your music on cassette. Thats how Napster was able to get away with mp3 sharing until the court shut them down saying that sharing over the internet was not a small circle of friends. Which the court was right in my opinion. However, the cat is out of the bag! How do you control or stop a small file size from leaving one person and going to another?
This is what I mean about no vision or plan from RIAA. They just want the status quo.

I totally agree DY. Especially since you purchased the music in a better quality format. Thats one of the main reasons that a higher itunes price is garbage. First off there is no marketing, shipping, packaging involved AND the music is not even as high quality as a CD would be. I don't but songs from itunes anyways, only the free ones from pepsi :D

Content companies in general are getting way out of control - just wait until the High Def dvd's come out. They are supposed to be un-copyable. To insure this, if you do find a way to make bootleg dvd's the firmware in the PLAYER will recognize this and automatically make changes to further prevent this. I hope both formats fall flat on their faces.
