In Illy, when you double click on a swatch and it brings up the window...what does "Global" mean?...also, does it need to be checked or does it matter?

Global lets you use that swatch in your document as if it were a spot color (you can tint it back, etc.), however, it's still a RGB or CMYK mix.

Global actually allows you to edit the swatch colour mix and instantly see the changes updated 'globally' in your document wherever that swatch is used.
