check the Resources Section.
How high do you need that resolution?

Hi.

I use www.sxc.hu (http://www.sxc.hu) all the time. Resolution is not HIGH high, but it is high enough foralot of averageprint jobs if you can resample photos to 300dpi in Photoshop.

Images here can be used for commercial and non-commercial use, and are distributed by a large group of generous designers and photographers. On there Links page, there are links to some other free, decent res. stock photography sites.

Cheers,

Trudy

I always resample. How else would you get it to print at 300DPI?

Cuz resampling doesn't do anything, and it just makes your printed file that much bigger, which in turn makes printdriver a very unhappy person cuz he has to rip the damn thing that much longer. Don't tell me we have to go back to the resolution thread and bring up examples : )

resampling? i'm new to his board sorry, I haven't seen the posts on this topic, so I will go searching. i think i may have used the term incorrectly though.

when a client gives me a photo at 72dpiwith say 1200 x 1000 pix, i go to Image Size, take off the tick next to Resample, and change 72 dpi to 300 dpi. it changes the doc's height and width, but not the amount of pixels. is this incorrect? am i causing my printer headaches?i would never simply change to 300 dpi without taking out that tick next to resample,as i can see why that's not going to make any difference and make the file much larger.

is this practice ok?

As long as you don't enlarge this particular example above 10.16cm x 8.47cm it will stay 300dpi and won't cause anyone headaches. Make it larger in the layout program and the res goes down.

Yup - that's fine. it's not actually doing anything to the photo at all except calling it 300 dpi instead off 72 dpi.
You could print the image 4"x4" (300 dpi) or even 8"x8" (150 dpi) and probably get away with it.

You've got the right idea - resampling is bad (with the tick on). see http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/?f=36&m=34385for a little happy picture example. Ignore the bits about cameras and stuff.

(oops - I misread the pixel ratio)
