lose the kid, do not put bitmap images in your logo
normalize the type, I dont know what I'm reading here
Play with placement I feel like I'm reading this underwater
use smart quotes
conceptualize...what are you selling me with this logo, what does your company do? Believe it or not even with the picture its unclear
and lastly if all else fails hire a designer

logos should be designed in vector format, as drorain said.
remember that your logo should be be effective at 1" wide and in black and white... for use on business cards and newspaper ads / faxes.
I don't really see a concept here... and the text is very hard to read.
You will want to simplify it - brainstorm, boil your ideas down into a solid concept, sketch a bunch of ideas out and THEN think about using the computer.
Logo design is not easy - designers study it for years in order to create effective logos, although the general perception is that anyone with a computer can put something together, there really is a lot that goes into it.
What ideas are you trying to get across with the logo? What do you want it to "say" to your audience? Why did you pick that font and those colors?

*rubs eyes*..... no sir.
This logo doesn't do anything I'm sure you intended it it to do.
Lose the picture, make the text legible at the very least.
I'm afraid it may be a back to the drawing board moment.

The font is hard to read for me - and the drop shadow just makes it even more difficult in this case. Remember readability issues in regards to your target marketing.

^^ what they said. Get out a sketch pad, and do a little brainstorming. A logo can't always say EVERYTHING you want it to, but it's gotta say something, don't you think?
Also, as was mentioned previously, it has to work in all black and very small. All black means all black, no screens allowed!

Actually what you've given us is not a logo at all... That's more like an advertising campaign. I see three distinct elements that made me confused why you were asking for a logo:
- The company name
- The company tagline
- Compelling image to sell
Now I'm not the person to say what is a logo and what isn't (I believe you have to read Jeff's book for that ;) ) however your logo might only contain 25% of the first element and most likely none of the other two. Faces are not logos and taglines are not ligatures.
To put it plainly you're lucky here. You have three distinct elements that you can draw upon to create a compelling logo ('new' 'godmother' and 'store') which all have their own images or angles that are able to compliment each other. Unlike XComputer Inc. or some generic name you can really knock this one out if you just put alot of elbow grease into it.
Good luck. :)

my advice:
don't sweat it - hire a designer.
my advice to designers:
go to this store for all your godmothering needs.
see? commerce works well like that.
