Post your entries (1 entry per person) here. Cut off date for submitting photos will be November 27 so we have a week to vote.

You can host photos for free at http://www.imageshack.us or www.thecreativeforum.com... attachments don't carry over properly into the voting thread.

Editing software may be used for usual processing (cropping, tonal and color adjustments, resizing), but no outside elements, objects, or images can be pasted, drawn or added into the original image. No elements, objects, or images can be cloned, cut out, or taken out of the original image other than what occurs from cropping.

The theme is: "depth of field". Happy shooting!

for anyone unfamiliar with the term "depth of field" (as many of us are photo-amateurs) here is some information you might find helpful:

Being new, I hope I am doing this right, but would like to give it a shot. This is an image I took last week for a models portfolio and fits the DOF theme.

okay, now i don't get it. So are we meant to be showing shallow depth of field or deep depth of field? Because i thought PlasticBoys shot of the museum was most excellent.

Tyger

I would presume that you can define it the way you want, but let's here what the others say 'cause i'm wondering the same thing.

plasticboy
11-10-2005, 12:44 PM
Yeh, same question. Depth of field is something that defines all pictures, it can be larger or smaller... Everyone started posting close-ups so I changed my entry too...

Tyger
11-10-2005, 12:50 PM
plasticboy, your first entry was killer, i really liked it. ( i can't see the new one because at work, some images are blocked)

As for the definition, it can be defined only by you. DOF can be narrow or deep, like i said earlier it's up to the individual to define it as they please.

Not sure I can enter, since I'm a JM employee, but here's my Lemonhead submission from my blog. Although I think the photo could use some more DoF.

My cut on shallow or depth would be either. Every photo shows some DOF, so maybe just using that DOF creatively is what the contest is about. Using shallow DOF to isolate a subject, or very deep DOF to bring the distant mountaints and the closest foreground flowers in crystal clear focus. Or, something totally unexpected such as using DOF as a creative element in itself.

yeah, a hard focus with a macro is the best way to get depth IMO

thx for the compliment!

Here's the story behind mine: A car crashed into a tree outside outside one of my parent's rental houses. It was a really bad crash (it up-rooted a tree!), so I took the opportunity to photograph the destruction. :P My dad had some window panes sitting outside the house, leaning against another tree that were smashed up pretty badly. This is the top of one of those panes. I have another pic of it, but sadly you can see the reflection of my camera in some of the broken glass. Oh well, maybe later I'll post more pics I took of the scene. Although, I didn't get there in time to get photos of the mangled car.

It probably sounds like I have no sympathy for the driver of the car... that's because I don't. He was extremely drunk. I'm just glad he hit the tree instead of another car.
