I did a search, but came up empty-handed. Does anyone know of any good (reliable) resources regarding typical Click-Through Rates (CTR) for banner ads? I learned in school that 1%, or thereabouts is above-average, but I don't know if times have changed. Holla!

No, 1% is bad. That means 1 out of 100 people are clicking your ad. 8 to 10% is a very good CTR. Average is about 3 to 5%. Now, if you have 1% of the people actually buying something, that is good.

Not that I don't beleive you, but do you have any documented resources that I can show my bosses that say that? I've always heard that CTRs are on average VERY low. I know, personally, I almost NEVER click on banners.

We serve ads on our sites and the average CTR for image banners averages from .8% to sometimes 2% but we rather see more than .8% even on targeted banners, pop unders (not pop ups) we see an average of 3% CTR. We are talking about 18 millions ads shown a month in three different ad spaces on our sites. If you get a 1% or better CTR please let m eknow how you did it (on 468 and 728 banners)

from my experience, pop-ups and unders perform better in regards to ctr. banners and skyscrapers averaged about 0.8%, anything above that was great. i worked with an online ad company that mainly worked with online publishers like chicago sun times, la times, ny daily news and more ... pop-ups and unders is where the money is at. although very annoying, more profitable.

I work for a regional magazine. We get about .75% - 1% on most of our ads, occasionally breaking 2% or even 3% if the content is of unusually high interest to our readers. I didn't want to soley go by my own data, though. Thanks for your input, guys. Still looking for credible sources to say this if anyone finds one.
