For about a year now, I've been trying to come up with a personal logo. I've gone through more concepts than I can count and I think I finally got one I might stick with. I wanted to go with that "impossible shape" technique.

My only concern is: Is it a bad thing to use only your initials for your logo? I tried several with my name spelled out, but none of them seemed right. This one does.

the falling F isn't a good thing in your logo
what is't that you want to reflect with falling subject?
Did you want the opinion of someone who knows nothing about the "laws of proper design"?
I'm just starting out in graphic design without any training, so I can give you the opinion of someone who would be looking at your logo without any design knowledge.
The F doesn't look right. If you follow the intended line of the fallen F, the F's 2 "legs" wouldn't be going in the direction you've drawn them.
Also, it's very clean, but it wouldn't stand out (to me, anyways) when leafing through the yellow pages.
I sent a picture of my logo (my avatar) to my ex, and she replied... " It looks good, but how does it look compared to other logos? It needs to stand out from the other logos."

Edit: I like the look of your avatar. Is that your present logo? It's very classy. See, now that would jump out at me more when going through the yellow pages.

I'm liking it Sketch. The F catches my eye. I'm not 100% sold on the choice of colors but the logo itself works. Nice work!

I like the thought but the perspective doesn't look quite right to me. The F looks like it is twisting. I don't think that it has the same vanishing point as the A, as if you drew both object in 3D and then rotated the F after the fact.

I agree that the F doesn't exactly work in the 3D perspective of things, but that's what I like about it. It's like an optical illusion, and it forces you to look at it a minute to figure out what isn't quite right about it. I dig the logo, but I don't dig the colors. Why not go with black or a color that will pop out more. The colors you've used here are too subdued and not very eye catching.

Thats a good point that it does get you looking at the thing... never thought of it that way. I did spend several minutes trying to figure out what it was that was bothering my eye.
Your logo defies the laws of physics and has entered the 4th dimension.
It's an interesting logo. I like it. I think, as already stated, you should work on the perspective of each letter. Then work on a better color combo.
Also, I would do something different with the word 'GRAPHICS". Make it larger and more condensed...or just tighten up the kerning. As it is now, I think it will be too small when the logo is reduced down to biz card size, etc.
Make a few adjustments and you'll be there.

Thanks for all the suggestions. As for the 3D perspective thing on the "F', it's at the same angle as on the "A" when it's turned right side up. And about the word graphics not working if you scaled it down, that was a problem I was having with alot of my concepts, but I did scale this logo down to 1 inch x 1 inch and it's still readable.
But for colors, I do agree with you. I thought of making it a bold color to stand out but make it look professional at the same time. I'm not so sure I pulled that off. I think the reason why I decided against a bold color was because the letter form itself was already bold so I thought anything else to make it even more bold would be too much.
I'll play around with it a bit and see what I come up with.

yup... really don't like the falling f.... but you could do the twisted reality thing on the A instead of the f and you don't have to have it falling then.
I like the colour though. :)
and it's a nice concept in general. :)
