Whenever I hit 'Accept' to scan an image into my computer, I get a pop-up that says:
"The scan image is greater than the maximum limit. Please reduce the size by choosing smaller scan resolution or by selecting a smaller scan area."
How do I do that? It doesn't even try to scan, it just won't.

do you have an option to change the resolution. most scanners do (usually a scroll button). what type of scanner is it and what software are you using.

set your scanner at 300dpi if the image is for print porposes.
set your scanner at 150dpi if you don't need a great image quality.

Also check the size you are scanning at. For example, lets say your scanning a 5x5 at 10,000% at 1200dpi. This could be a problem.

I forgot to mention, it's an HP all in one printer/scanner/copier and I'm using Mac OS 10.2.8.
The image is for print purposes. It's a black and white photo I took that I'm going to digitaly color.
The thing is, I don't know how to check the size I'm scanning at or how to change it.

Turn your scanner on, open Photoshop, go to file then import and see if your scanner is listed. If it is then open it up to scan through Photoshop. It should show you all the settings.

I did just that. And I got that same pop up and then another one that said:
"Could not complete import because there is no scanner installed."
I kinda feel like the guy in your avatar, jim.

Mac or PC? I would trash and reinstall the scanner software and reboot. Something doesn't sound right.

Mac. And I just now went to HP's site and re-downloaded the software for my scanner. Didn't do any good.
Here's a couple screenshots of what I'm talking about:

The computer is reading it as being hooked up though. When I go to "About This Mac", and click on the "Devices and Volumes" tab, it reads it as being hooked into USB 1.

Trying reinstalling your hp drivers (the cd that came with). Or, perhaps, depending on how long ago you purchased the scanners, your drivers are out of date. Go to hp's site and download the newest version.

How old is the scanner? I'm assuming that hp says the software for that scanner is compatible with OSX? Maybe Photoshop is the problem. Try trashing PS prefs and reboot.

Well, I tried scanning it in without using Photoshop and it didn't work. The scanner is only about 2 years old and I have used it on this computer before. I don't know why it's not working now. When I went to hp's site to re-download the driver, It said it was compatable with OS X.

You said you have a printer/scanner/copier....does the printer work??? If not then that means the whole thing is not well installed.
ok, do the following. You have a mac so:
1: go to MACHINTOSH HD (icon on desktop)
2: go to APPLICATIONS
3: go to UTILITIES
4:click PRINTER SETUP UTILITIES
5: click ADD
6: select USB on the top and let your computer detect the printer/scanner/copier
You can also scroll down the menu after that and select your printer.
If your computer detects your printer and you are able to print with it, then the problem should be with the scanning software.
try to reinstall it, and open photoshop again and do what "jimking" said (scan using photoshop)
If that doen't work then definetely call hp.

CHECK THE CABLE IF IS WELL CONNECTED ON THE BACK OF THE SCANNER!!!

This song goes out to you...
If I had a hammer
I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening
All over this land
I'd hammer out danger
I'd hammer out a warning
I'd hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land
If I had a bell
I'd ring it in the morning
I'd ring it in the evening
All over this land
I'd ring out danger
I'd ring out a warning
I'd ring out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land
If I had a song
I'd sing it in the morning
I'd sing it in the evening
All over this land
I'd sing out danger
I'd sing out a warning
I'd sing out love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land
Well I've got a hammer
And I've got a bell
And I've got a song to sing
All over this land
It's the hammer of justice
It's the bell of freedom
It's the song about love between my brothers and my sisters
All over this land

Well, I called HP support. The only thing they could think of for me to do was to uninstal the scanner software and re-download it from their website. She said that if that didn't work, I'd either have to send mine in and get a replacement, or buy a new one altogether.
Looks like I'm going to be buying a new one.
