My boss walks in this morning and says "you got time for a meeting? I have a guy here from Clear Channel Communications, well formerly of Clear Channel, his position was eliminated on monday and My friend at Clear Channel said I should talk to him to see what he could do for the company"

So I sit down in this meeting and this guy had been with Clear Channel for 9 years and had a very impressive portfolio, he basically has all the strong suits I have just 7 years more experienced... For about 10 minutes I thought I was going to get let go right after we were done meeting with him.

Turns out he was only interested in freelance and that's all my company wanted to meet with him about and that we'd only use him if I wanted to.

So not only am I still employed, but I've been reaffirmed that they want to build their Marketing & Advertising Dept. around me.

I'll double fist some long islands at lunch to celebrate

wow, I can imagine that must have been a little traumatic! Sounds like they have a lot of faith in you though, which has to feel good!

Have a drink for me at lunch - or else I'll have to wait to celebrate with you until I get home ;)

oh goodness..thats great news for you, I'm glad! Clear Channel is a huge company so this guy's freelancing might be an excellent help for you. Glad something that looked bad, turned out well for you

heheh I know what you feel. Last week my boss came and said that we have to bring " fresh blood" to our company, Fortunately they didn't throw away me, we got interns. Internship is really greatest thing in the world :)

Just to be safe you should blow up the guy's car.

With him in it.

LOL - I know the feeling...back when I was an employee I had a boss that used to do that sort of thing on a regular basis. One day he walked over to my space...paused & took a deep breath, then said "would you come outside with me for a minute?" I was thinking oh shit...what did I do? It turned out that he just wanted me to help him with some stuff that had to be spray glued & placed on foam core.

I think he did that sort of thing for his own entertainment ;)

I had the exact same thing happen to me at my last job except my boss said I want you to meet so and so. He's going to be your replacement. Train him how to do your job so he can take over for you in two weeks.

That is how I found out I was going to be out of work last time. I hadn't done anything wrong, the company I was contracted to found out that they could get a better deal through some print broker who was undercutting everyone else in town's prices. (I HATE PRINT BROKERS!)

My employer had only hired me to fulfill that contract so when it was cancelled, so was I.

I must have trained my replacement right. He quit after two weeks because he couldn't handle the same workload I had been taking care of for five years. It kinda made me feel good about the job I was doing.

Its always a little traumatic when they bring new people on board who have an intimidating amount of experience. I just keep pluggin away and tryin to get as much experience as possible, so one day I can be one of those people. :)
