Hey guys,

I am new to this forum. I am currently working on a logo for an academic program at my school. I have a concept going now, but I don't know what else to add to it to make it more appealing.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions:

Hey Iggie, welcome to the forum.

Ummm, you're gonna have to give us a little more to go on there, a link or an image to look at would help. http://home.comcast.net/~rnick9/koolsmiley.gif

Make sure it's in RGB. That usually happens when the image is in some other color format.

I wouldn't change a thing. It does everything a logo is supposed to do. I'm sure others will nitpick the crap out of it but as a clean, functional logo it's good to go.

I like it too.

i think it's fine but i'm not sure about the way the p is in frount of the s & the s is in front of the d because it looks like the d&p are on the same level because they are the same color. i hope you understand what i mean. i would put a little space between the 2 black letters it will make a world of difference. (just try it & see)
good luck

Nice concept! It's a simple clean design. The positioning of the letters does cause a visual issue for me. The order of the letterforms in the monogram seem the reverse of the order in the name. I would have placed the D in the foreground, the S in the middle and the P in the background for it to "read" correctly for myself.

13yrGuru does introduce another issue. The logo symbol as it is could be for a law firm, accounting business or any other type of company. It doesn't convey anything about education or scholars. Having done many education-related logos I do realize it's tough to create an image without going into the usual stereotypical graphic elements that have a link to academia.

I agree that you don't need to change a thing on it. I hate it when I keep thinking that my logos need something more to them. I have to talk myself into not adding more elements. You don't want your logo to be too busy.

dont like the way the letters overlap, maybye put the 'S' in front

THis is what I have now. I thought the line might help create some sort of boundary.

If your going to use the line, take out the initials. They way it is now, it looks like two seperate logos.

not very interesting, looks like you just loaded up your computer, and messed with the type, i dont see any concept. seems pretty boring to me, and as jeff siad, the placement of the letters is an issue (an issue you obvuisly havent even fixed)
i'd think of some more ideas, adn see if you can come up with something better.

nothing wrong with useing only type, but try to be more creative in your approach,
i actually think there is a LOT of images that you can associate w/ "schollar" eg, diploma like images... but if you insist on using type, why not try to be more creative by playing with the letters, and manipulating them, all i see at the moment is a text only logo, with a standard font and just placed there (not even placed well)

good luck, and keep thininking of new ideas, and see if you can play with the "DSP" so it has something "original"

keep us posted and

good luck ;)

With the swooshish line underneath there's kind of a sad face within the image...

Assuming your new to this I think it works.

The way I see it is

is there a concept - not really.

However, is there a clear communication - yes.

Then I'll give you some points for not using raster effects in a logo design.

Obviously the design could be pushed further... However that can be said about almost evry logo and design based work out there.

The question is are you or I should say the client happy?

If the answer is yes.. then its done.

Now to dispute something jeff said I actually think it does a good job representing education.

maybe it is because I was prone to this logo for 12 years of my life... but none the less. I think it works.

I liked the one with the type beneath your logo. But if you prefer the new one I suggest you fix the arch, it is touching the letter g and it looks a bit weird. How about going with small caps? that way you won't have a problem with descenders.

I just found this thread and the logo was simple to start off (maybe a little too simple) and I like what you've done with it.

One thing I think (and maybe this is just me) but I hate solid strokes. The stroke underneath the text is boring to me. A little differentiation in the line width might help, but you run the risk of making it look too cartoony if you overdo it.

Right now I'm a little too intoxicated to give you any more help than that.

I think I'll have more to offer tomorrow about mid-afternoon. I should be fine by then. :)

But remember one thing:

Too much advice from too many people can hurt your design.

A horse designed by a committee often turns out to be a camel.

That makes two of us ... this thread started over a month ago - I think iggie probably has the logo all hammered out by now.
