Hey everyone,
Let me know what you think. It's still in "the works" but any comments will help my progress. Thanks

Never ask people to critique a work in progress. Its you who should be your own self check in that process. People in general have so many varying views on design that you will never get anything done.
I am not going to critique a work in progress - I will reserve critiques till after the site has launched....how are you ever going to build up any confidence that way or have 100% invested into it?

Why not?
All I am looking for is some creative direction as I'm overloaded with ideas and I don't want to make my site look too hokey.
What's the difference between now and later? Other than the timeless hours and sleepless nights going into the design and creation, then finding out it just doesn't work?
I won't need direction when I'm done because when it's launched...it's obviously finished, no questions asked (in my mind atleast).
Some of us need help along the way and it would be nice to get some comments thrown my way. I will do with them what I will.

There's not much to look at now but my advice would be to stay away from the beveled lettering and choose a color palette with about 3 colors. Every link is a different color on the site. I know there are exceptions to rules in graphic design and sometimes you can break them if you know what you are doing. Right now your breaking one and it isn't working.

Great...thanks for that.
I remember seeing your site quite some time ago and I'm glad I got a chance to see it again. I'm jealous :o I really like it. Well done!

PS: Apologize is spelt incorrectly on your site, Panda.

There are two conflicting statements in that one post. You have a lot of ideas right? That is why you need to spend time weighing the pros and cons of them yourself. It is the same process you will have to do when you get a client. How else are you going to determine that it "does work" or "dosent work".
A state of does and dosent might be gauged from your peers comments but until you train yourself to be your greatest critique, you will never know.
Ill say it again, keep plugging away and keep internally evaluating your ideas based on your intellect. After that, put forward the product you think is best and then show it to everyone. I was in your shoes 4-5 years back, Id semi do something and then show it to people...by the time I had the finished product I felt no investment towards it and a very minimal sense of pride.

Ok fine :P Ill shutup
well what greenthumb is saying is correct.
if you want a crtique now here goes:
its crap, hate the beveling, hate the banner, too many stars, no content, hate the colors, looks unprofessional.
you happy?
i hope not, but if you are "overflowing with ideas"
sketch em out and post us 10 ideas to look at ;)
good luck

Thumbs' got a point. I've been a member since June; I have yet to post anything on the Showcase because every idea has never been finished. I've had TONS of ideas, mostly bad, but through some time off (read: procrastination) I have been able to narrow it down to what I feel is a decent concept and currently my site is a WIP. I'm not going to post it until I feel it's done. I think it's sort of like asking for free consultation to get that far.
As a designer, you bear some responsibility to get your project to a state that you can consider it complete. Then take some critiques. Sometimes you'll get a "start completely over", which usually is a bummer, but more often than not you'll get some advice to make tweaks to what you already have. When asking for critiques before a project is done, the final result becomes 25% yours, 25% mine, 25% keith's, and 25% GreenThumbs. It's one thing to offer advice and corrections to something that is completed, because really it is up to you if you want to make those changes; you already have it finished, who says you have to do anything...we're merely offering advice. But if it's a WIP, it becomes much less a personal effort and more effort from other designers who already have their own concepts for projects to come up with.
Just keep pluggin' away and when you have a finished product, we'll let you know what we think.

4 hours later....
OK so you were all right. My site sucked rotten eggs and I knew it. I've designed something that a little less "conepty" and more functional.
I will post it again, once it has been launched...officially ;)
good luck ,
YOU CAN DUU IT!!!
