We have a Rip upgrade available that has a JDF enabler version 2.0. What is it the benefit of using JDF in the real world?

Who is using this? Are clients using and giving printers JDF files yet?

I have read up a bit at Adobe:
http://www.adobe.com/products/jdf/main.html

Is this going to affect prepress in a significant way very soon, or is this something we can wait on?

That's the job ticketing thingy isn't it?
I can't get clients to send me a low res proof or a fax, I'm not gonna get this I don;t think

This is the first I have heard of it, but the Adobe site calls it a Smart Job Jacket

Can't hurt to read up on it but I can't see getting much of this yet.

It sounds like a cool deal. From what I can gather, a jdf bridges the gap and clears up all the little problems we now have in printing a pdf such as size issues, software issues, etc.

But what I wonder is, are we going to have to retro fit our imagesetters, etc for jdf files?

No such thing as retrofitting anything in printing ....means new hardware for all if it takes off for us here. Be interesting to see if the "really" does what it says. Sounds like a monster headache :D

My biggest thing is when I get an ad floating in a page in PDF format. If I could crop automatically..... Getting a client to define a trim properly, well I'd turn blue and die suffice as to say.

Red Box? it works for me... oh it's probably the thing where I can never see pictures everyone else sees so since I can see this one no one else can. I love!

That would be cyan, not blue!

if you can get everyone adhering to the jdf format, including hardware, then it will be sweet, prepress guys should be able to stop taking supplements to halt their premature ageing.
