Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : How to make one pdf out of 5 separate pdfs
I have 5 separate pdfs that I need to make into ONE pdf
with 5 pages. I usually create my pdfs through my printer
although I do have Illustrator. Could you please help?
I've tried to figure it out on my own but it's not working.
thanks!

which version of acrobat do you have access to?
CS2 right from the file menu you can create from multiple files.

Open them all in one acrobat file, then save. I think this only works if you have acrobat professional though. sorry that's all I've got

what if you place them all in InDesign and then export as pdf?

>>CS2 right from the file menu you can create from multiple files<<
Actually, even goes back to Acr 5-- though not as a menu function, or not the same way, I forget. But in any version from and up to 7 you can also just drag a file list from a file manager right onto the last page and it'll add them in-- in the order they're listed. Handy for when you have files sorted by date, say. Not sure if the Mac version supported this back as far.
Wow, you guys are quick!
I only have Acrobat Reader 5.0 and
Illustrator 10 and I'm not super proficient on Illustrator.
I don't have InDesign.
This is a media kit I'm working with.
I have a pdf that has five pages and I want to switch out
one of the pages. If I open that pdf on Illustrator
is there a way I can remove page 3 and replace it with
my new pdf?
Thanks!

You can only open single pages in Illy, but someone on the GDF may be willing to do this for you. PM me, and I'll see if I can help.
Thanks everyone. Sounds like I just don't have the ability to do it.
I was doing some side work for my editor but we do have a main
graphic designer that I can send it to. I just didn't want to bug him
if I had the personal means to do it. But sounds like I don't.
Thanks!

Yeah, you need to do through Acrobat Professional or a page layout program. That's a job for your friendly neighborhood designer. Tell him to stop dinking around posting on forums and get some real work done for a change. Lazy bum.

damn, foiled again!
Actually, I've always sort of thought of GDF as a collective, sort of a hive-mind, like the borg. . . :D

Seven of Nine can assimilate me any ol' time she feels the need.
Well, here's what I have learned so far today.
I am able to open the 5 page pdf in Illustrator and select the page
3 that I want to replace. I selected all and deleted everything on that
page and then "placed" my photoshop doc of the new page.
It works! I tried placing both a pdf and psd and both work.
Only problem now is that the file size is huge.
I still have a lot to learn (obviously).
When our graphic designer made this page 3 his pdf file size was 32kb
and my pdf file size for the new one I created is 916kb
I tried reducing size in Photoshop from 300dpi to 150dpi
but still have a pdf that is 400kb.
So, still need help but am making progress!

Are you saying that a 400kb file is HUGE?
Are you saying that a 400kb file is HUGE?
I think that's what he said.
I would not be making your PDF as a rasterized 150dpi Photoshop PDF. Obviously, the original file was very simple vector line art and/or text, judging from the size. You are going to reduce the quality of your file immensely! Just get your graphic designer to piece them together with Acrobat Pro or InDesign. It'll only take him seconds.
The original 5 page media kit (in one pdf) done by our graphic designer was 136kb. My version with just pg 3 replaced is 908kb.
aack, obviously I'm starting to get in over my head here....

Deep breaths. It's going to be all good.
Anything you need to do with this pdf file you are so money you don't even know it, especially since it's under 1mb.
You can:
Email it
Burn it to CD
Burn it to one of those little half CDs
put it on a 3.5 floppy (why? but you could)
spread it on a sanwich and eat it with some jelly.
I don't know exactly what you're going to do with it but I would say that you are A-O.K with the file size you have.
Okay, deep breaths and glass(es) of wine and I'm feeling
fine about this now!
This doc is meant for email so yes, I guess under 1mb
is okay but I'm still waiting for our graphic designer to
share with me how he got his file so small and still lookin good.
I'll share if I hear more.
Thanks!
