Please tell me there's a way. I can't find any extensions to do this, I'm fed up.

as far as i've found their isn't a way, they should just install a big STOP button at the top of the browser though

Any particular sound format that is the problem? SWF or midi?

Any and all. Here's the problem: I listen to music 99.875% of the time I'm online. Listening to the music I CHOOSE to listen to. (Check the sig for my playlist.) I don't need some shitty company or webmaster chiming in with their 2¢. It's fuçking annoying when someone's god-awful techno that they mixed theirselves on Fruity Loops starts cutting into my Castanets or Cage. It not only annoys the shit out of me, but it makes me close the page imediately. So, if I want to look at that page badly enough, I have to switch over to iTunes, close down my music, and switch back. This is a pointless rant, but I want to put an end to the madness.

Sorry, DY. My guess is you're one of the conveniently ignored minorities in the webdesign world. But I feel your pain; they should install a mute function.

It's times like these I wish knew something about programming languages. I'd make the freakin extension myself. :[

You could get FoxyTunes. That way you could control iTunes from the Firefox status bar. But that is only a partial fix.

I've tried that, I'm not a fan. I keep itunes in the minimized form on my screen at all times. Plus, it doesn't prevent other sites from playing their music.

hmm i make my own shitty music in fruity loops hehe
but yeah, it would be nice if there was a mute button for the browser. But it didn't mute your itunes. It is especially important when kids have a million things going on their myspace page.
