Well I’m not real sure where to place this thread. If someone has a better idea than adobe let me know & we'll see about moving it. OK with that said here is the problem.
My wife works for an Attorney she does all of her documents in word. Her boss wants her to find a way to send (email) her files (possibly as PDF) to clients for them to review/sign but not be able to edit the text in the document.
Any ideas?

Even pdf's can be edited unless you password protect them. And even then there is software out there that can break that password (it's illegal software but that isn't gonna stop someone bent on breaking the law by changing a document).
Attorney? Better off sticking to fax and person-to-person. Or use a screen shot. Might be kinda hard to read...

Well I don't think they are looking for Fort Knox type of protection more just so that something doesn't get screwed up by just moving the curser or falling asleep on the keyboard. That way if it does get changed they will know that it was not an accident.

PDF is best option. To the best of my knowledge you need Acrobat Professional inorder to make the changes. There are a ton of settings in pdf land that you can tailor to best suit your needs, and once you have them set you can save them.

with Acrobat 7 and Reader 7 you can create a user level annotation digital signoff environment.

And don't forget if you have Acrobat you can apply security settings to printing and/or copying of the PDF. It can be password protected and you'd have to be very determined to get past these. I think the security also stops it being opened in Illustrator.
