Photoshop Elements same as Photoshop?

Question...I've got a client who has a file in Photoshop Elements. Is that gonna be the same file format as a PSD file? What are his options in saving the file? Elements is a new one for this prepress guy.

Rick it's been so long since I had it installed...don't think I ever used it.
It says it supports jpg, tif, psd, pdf, gif formats. It doesn't say what it saves as. Lots of hype on pdf and automatic email size files.

thanks, PD. I just talked to the client and he's says he can save it in about any format.
