I am looking for a new printer (compatiable with new laptop) + a scanner. I have seen some machines that have both combined, but how well do they really work? It would be nice to have it all-in-one, but what do you all suggest? I want decent printing quality for printing demo copies of images and photos.

Do you want decent scanning quality or not?
Not sure those all-in-ones are above adequate for scanning for a graphics business.
You kinda want something that can scan high enough to give you a GOOD 300dpi file at your tabloid size.
Also, in an all in one, if one part breaks, does it take the rest with it?
Don't own one for that reason.

I had one of those all-in-one units for a while and I hated it as a scanner. In order to scan anything small or oddly shaped you have to place it in a mylar sleeve. This sleeve will get scratched and will get kind of a milky apperance after a while. And unlike a flatbed you cant scan anything that isn't thin and flat. If someone gives you a mounted photo you are out of luck.

I have a HP photosmart 7150... love it. Great little printer. for my scanner i have a Umax but their software in not compatible with OS X (if your on a mac). but they offer a 3rd party software on their site for a price. Still you can get an Epson that is just as good.
