I'm doing the art for a CD cover at the studio I', working. I'm not really a designer, I have no formal training of any sort, but I like to think I have a feel for how things are "supposed" to look.

My problem is I have no idea how the print process works or even how I should ship off the finished product that I have come up with. My boss keeps at me asking me for a printout for him to look at, so I'm looking for a way to get the damn thing out on paper.

The templates I'm using are not A4 size, I don't actually know what the sheet size and shape is called. I'm using Adobe Illustrator CS2s blank template for CD booklets and back.

So can anybody help me get this out in the right size and shape on an A4 size piece of paper?

Many thanks,

/Henrik

Are you using a mac?
Do you need to print these at 100% or will scaled do?

Illy CS2 will 'fit to printer'

It fits the ArtBoard though. So size your Document setup to just fit your layouts.

You then need to go to set your Page setup, select the printer you are using, select a4 paper in the correct orientation, then go to Print where, depending on your printer driver, you go to General or Setup (it may be under a tip down menu) and select "fit to page".

If you are on a PC, the process is similar.

If you need them at 100%, again go to page setup, select your printer and A4 in correct orientation.

In your file, in your toolbox you will see a hand in the lower right. Hold it down and you will see the page tile tool. Select it and click where you want the lower left corner of your print page to be. Be sure all the art you want to print is on the artboard and within the tile outlines. Print. Note: sometimes I've noticed in CS1 that the portion you want to print doesn't always show in the view box on the print dialog page. Simply click on the view box in the print menu and you will see a grab hand that you can move the image into position for print.

Is it possible to output only a selection of the artboard to a .pdf file? Whenever I try to output anything to .pdf it automatically makes a selection of a portion of the artboard and outputs only that part of it, not allowing me to control which part.

How do I gain control over this?
