We have recently upgraded our inhouse printer to a Canon CLC3200 and have had continuous problems with it printing things upside down. When producing magazines and other booklets it prints one side the right way up but on the back it prints upside down. This happens despite whatever software we use; InDesign, Quark and Pagemaker. As a result we have to design our book, then flip the pages upside down on screen to get them to print correctly.

As you can imagine this is not a great way of working, especially on a rush job! Anyone got any ideas what is going wrong? Have tried to change and fiddle with as many settings as possible, but to no avail!!

Thanks

Maybe you have to change the way you feed it back through to do the backside? I dunno just a wild guess?! :o( LOL! I worked on a Cannon CLC but it has been about ohhh...5 years so I'm not sure. This is probobly something you have tried already tho I am sure?!

Try CorelDraw! It has inbuilt utility to handle front-back printing & booklet printing. (2 or more pages per sheet.) It interacts with the printer with couple of test prints & asks you couple of questions such as “Print is upside down or not?” Then it will tell you right way of putting papers along with their order.

That’s it. It’s easy.

Also check with your printer software, does your printer have some setting to handle such type of printing. Most of the HP printers have their own setting, and works with all programs, so no need to rely on your graphic software.http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/roll.gif

CorelDraw is NOT a magazine layout program.
Yikes.

Thanks all, we are definately sticking with InDesign cos I think it's great!! And Corel Draw isn't brilliant for magazine layouts - not the right tool.

It can't be to do with the way the paper is put in, as it prints both sides, folds and staples the booklet in one session, so the paper is only fed through once, rather than printing on one side, then flipping it over.

Thanks for your help everyone though - rotating every other page is driving us nuts!!

LOL!! Hey it was funny PD...I'm with ya ;o)

Yeah it has to be some friggin setting. Even I have spent time thinking about this today - yu know...its always productive to try and figure out someone elses problems when I am at work instead of dealing with my own ;o)

So I'm with Mickey - I know you don't wanna bc you prolly have like 100 times already but check your settings again maybe

Change your duplex setting from long edge binding to short edge binding. Remember, with 11x17 paper, the short edge is the side the paper turns to.

That should take care of your problem.

Make a PDF, open in Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Go to Document // Rotate Pages

Chose to rotate odd pages 180 degrees.

Save document or Print.

Last step; Enter time travel machine and go back in time three years. (sorry it just struck me as funny)

Try to find a setting in your printer or indesign print window that talks about duplexing. You will most likely have a choice of head to head or head to toe. The one that is correct will depend on how your printer flips the paper.

I googled for this problem, found this forum, saw there was no answer, figured it out myself... what was I to do? I just had to answer it.

However, it was stale and I hope it doesn't give me an upset stomach :)
