I actually watched Dick Clark on New Year's eve and found it heart wrenching. The man has been through so much with his stroke. Thankfully he is still with us. It was nice to see him back. Now with that said, I really have to wonder who the genius was who thought it would be ok to do what they did in this article.

Photoshopped Dick Clark (http://photoshopnews.com/2005/12/29/miracle-photoshop-cures-dick-clark-in-time-for-new-years/)

I am sure he knew about it but I kind of found it a bit tasteless. The man isn't who he used to be and I personally don't think it's ok to pretend he is. Of course we shouldn't make a huge deal out his current condition but at the same time I don't think photoshopping him into a picture is very respectful of him or even others with a similar situation.

What do you guys think about this?

Thread moved out of moderated news section for open opinion.

I consider the source.

The title for the thread you made is more stunning. "Miracle Photoshop Cures Dick..." is how it came up in my browser. Now that's bad news for Viagra.

Can't say I approve one bit. I'm no fan of Dick Clark, but even so this is ridiculous. It's like they think we're going to forget that it happened, or maybe they can trick a few people who haven't heard about his condition.

You know, I have yet to see him the way he was. Whenever he was on TV in the bars on Saturday, I must have been elsewhere*.

Just so it's clear I did not come up with that title. That was the title on the article.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick_Clark_(entertainer)

Has a pretty decent biography on him.

You could call Dick Clark a higly recognizable American Entertainer. Which brings me to that photoshop of Dick Clark, is pretty sick and tasteless, I agree Neuro. Its pretty sad when people have to do things like that, they have nothing else better to do with there lives than cause problems.

Not pointed at you Neuro, I understood why you posted it.

I remember growing up with Dick Clark doing the New Years eve special every year. I felt bad for him the other night, too.

The thing about 'entertainment' is that NONE of it is real... how fake are celebrities? Ever see the pictures of them in their regular lives when they haven't spent hours in makeup and wardrobe? When they are in the spotlight, they are not "real" people, imo.

I read over the article quickly, and I didn't see whether this is something that Dick Clark *wanted* them to do. I mean, after all that he has been through, it makes me wonder if he would have wanted his 'fans' to pretend that his stroke never happened. I wonder how HE felt about it.

Reminds me of this semi-ancient thread I posted long ago: When does retouching a photo go too far? (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7083)

They photoshopped him into a picture, how is that not funny?

I decided to do a write up about this for my Prepressology (http://www.prepressology.com) blog today. I was actually surprised how much this bothered me the more I thought about it. I agree that people make stinks about almost anything these days but this one kind of made me think. That thinking led me to want to explain it a little bit more as to why I didn't think the Photoshopped Dick Clark was very appealing to me.
