Hang on a second, she has to return home after 10 pm, or does she have to not drive after 10 pm? In Canada they install a device in the car which requires people on probation to blow into it. The device then determines if there is any alcohol at all in their breath. If there is, the car won't start.

Yep...there is a super ZERO tolerance here. I'm not sure if that device is a federal or provincial thing or not. Maybe Carbuncle knows. But yeah, they don't mess around with DUI here.

Silence, that's kind of stupid about the curfew. How is it any different if she's at your place or at home? So long as she's not driving. I wonder what the reasoning is behind that.

I got a dewey a couple years ago, pancakeing sucked. I had an extreme dui too, i was also doing 90 in a 40 (back when i had my civic hatch) anyways long story short, i waived my right for an attorney, I talked one on one with the prosecuter. They were going to put on of those things on my car cuz its mandatory for extreme dewey, but I talked him out of it, I also got him to give me 2 days in jail instead of 10. I was already on probabtion, and my officer never found out...whew!!! I did my weekend in Tent City, paid my $1,500.00 fine, and havent drove drunk since. Yeah, I have had a crazy past, im settled down now though ; )

the in-car breathalisers mustn't be mandatory because i've got a buddy who was done for a dui 1 1/2 years ago - never had one. he just got another dui and they just revoked his car & license. he's pretty chronic, though. perhaps it's a 1st offense, plea-bargain deal. i have a crappy bicycle from kmart. i ride drunk all the time. mostly at 3am on the sidewalk, though.

greetings, earthlings. take me to your dealer.

I have been working as a taxi driver for a year now earning money to go to school (in graphic design, not cab driving) and as a professional driver, there are nothing worse than a driver that is drunk! Thats playing lotto with not just your own life, but with anyone that happens to cross your path. Take a taxi instead =)

yeah... have friends that can barely walk so they ridehttp://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/blink.gif...not me. if i'm going to get absolutely paralytic, i'm in a taxi or close enough to crawl home. i guess we all have different parameters for 'drunk' -i didn't mean hammered. toronto, although it hasn't got a fantastic bike-system by any means, has some decent bike paths in the downtown core. though they're still on the road and i worry about getting hit in the middle of the afternoon, stone-cold sober. freakin' cars.

thanks for the heads-up, though. i was aware. you people are nice.http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/emoticons/cheers.gif

Carbuncle, maybe they're a new thing.

I've heard of a guy being arrested for DUI on his ride-on tractor...because he lost his license drinking in a car and totalled it. Now that's one guy that doesn't give up.
