I'm learning CSS.
The majority of work I do is print based, but it seems as though I have the potential to pick up a little more web design work.
I already know HTML pretty well and have barely dabbled into CSS
but I am giving in. I bought a book on CSS and I'm fo real gonna learn it!
Beyond my book and w3schools.com does anyone have any tips or suggestions as I'm diving into this part of the world finally?

My 1st thought is, don't get frustrated with the imperfections in CSS/2. It's far from complete, far from perfect, and in my opinion, parts of it are far from logical. But it's the only game in town.

Google doesn't recognize "designer tomorrow" - maybe you should buy the domain and you could set all the trends for the future!

Damn right I am ! :D
Honestly? I learned mostly by reading code, lots of it. I'd see a site that I liked or wanted to learn how something is done, view source, and just study it.

in that case? www.csszengarden.com
Also, once you get past the "CSS for dummies" books, I can not recommend enough this book -- http://simplebits.com/publications/solutions/. It gives an outstanding explanation for the "WHY" that goes hand and hand with the "HOW".

That would be a neat trick, Jim. You'd need to be standing in the courtyard behind the bldg to see my window, or in the hotel across the alley.

I have two books (the zen of css design and Visual Quickstart Guide DHTML and CSS) and alot of online help from Joe and EC. I didn't really learn anything until I started to work on the actual site. I didn't have any real grasp of html, but I do have a minor in computer science. I'm not a guru yet. I'm a two on a scale of one to ten.

He's right, learning by coding something and seeing the result is part of the learning experience. However fair warning, without a good reference or some help it can be VERY frustrating.

CSS is definitely cutting edge, or at least it will be when all the browsers support it properly. Look up Eric Meyer. There's a book called "Eric Meyer on CSS" or maybe 2 or 3 by now, that have tutorials and are pretty easy to follow. His web site also has a lot of examples and resources.
Good luck! :)
