COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Apparently, a cat was paying attention when his owner, Gary Rosheisen, tried to show him how to dial 911.
Rosheisen, of Columbus, Ohio, was unable to call for help when he fell out of his wheelchair Thursday. But he said his cat did it for him.
Columbus police said the cat, named Tommy, was lying by a telephone on the living room floor when they arrived at the man's home Thursday.
They had received a 911 call from the apartment, but no one was on the phone.
Rosheisen said Tommy must have hit the right buttons to alert authorities.
He said he had tried to teach Tommy to dial 911, using a speed-dial button. But he wasn't sure if the cat ever picked up the training.

smarter? :D
I've always thought cats were super smart. I think they know that I'm deathly allergic to them, so when ever they're around me there always trying to get up in my shit and make me sick for fun. Because anybody or anything can't do the same thing day in and day out, they need variety.

definitely!
Here's how I think it went. "Hmm... the Man is on the floor. If the Man stays on the floor, who will feed me? I'm hungry... better call for a pizza. Now what was that number?"

That's freakin' awesome. Smart kitty. I'm sure he really only did it for the food. When are cats not thinking about food? But they sure are clever little devils and they know how to get what they want... food.
Now, if I could only teach my cat to open up my cell phone and call for pizza for me....

You know, one of my cats figured out how to open the cabinets in the kitchen... I went out to get a drink, and the bottom cabinet door opened up a crack, then with a *thump* a potato fell out, and the door closed. Then another... and another... so I went over and opened the door and there she was, trying to make herself comfortable inside the cabinet.

My cat Cocoa has one good eye and one not so good eye and no front claws. When we first got her she found out we had some mice living in the house we didn't know about. Even with her limitations she found a way to catch the mice and dispose of them leaving them right next to her food dish. I made her a poster with her picture on it and for each mouse she got I put a picture of a mouse with a red x throught it after about seven mice were caught we have not seen a mouse in about 2 years. I call her Cocoa the mouse slayer.

my cat opens doors as well. proper doors too, not just cupboards. we'd been away for a weekend and my friend who was feeding the cat phoned me up in a panic because she thought someone had been in the house as all the internal doors that we left closed were open when she got there one day! lol turns out it was the cat, we were puzzled at first until we actually saw him open one!
he also used to leave paw prints in the toilet bowl if we left the lid open by accident, so we thought "eeeeew he's not drinking that water is he?!" then one night i caught him having a wee in our toilet!!! couldn't believe it - he'd obviously decided it was too cold outside! just need to teach him how to flush now! :D
