I don't think I would have believed this if anyone told me this was going to happen to me one year ago, nor did I expect to advance this quickly in the company. I won't go into the circumstances this has happened under, but I simply took the ball and ran with it. I've been promoted to Lead/Senior Designer, baby! In a nutshell, I'll be advising and overseeing a design staff of my own as they're put together in the future.

Sounds silly, but working up to this is all I've dreamed of and kind of puts the last five hellish years of my career into perspective.

<cough> Just felt like celebrating. Uh, anyway, any advice for me? :)

Congratulations, Patrick!!

I don't know that I have a whole lot of advice other than look in the soapbox section for older posts by a guy named Patrick Shannon. Should give you a pretty good idea of how to and how not to treat the people working for you. :)

Celebrate.

Congradulations, I'd think you could do the same thing you have been doing, maybe step it up :p.

Hope you like it.

way to go! that sounds like a good step in your career. Though it will be more people work and less design it would seem that you'll have more creative control which is always cool. Plus "Senior Designer" never looks bad on a resume ;o)

Uh, anyway, any advice for me? :)Don't be like your last bosses. Hire talented people, if you have control. Threated to fire anyone who so much as highlights comic sans from font selection.

Hopefully I'll be in a somewhat similar situation myself.

Not necessarily, at least in my case. As it stands right now, I am literally handling ALL websites for the company until certain transitions happen. But when the team is built back up, they'll be handling the boutiquing stuff while I'll be designing/overseeing more demanding clients (marketing/branding strategies, etc).

I would assume I wouldn't have the final word about whom is hired, but obviously I'd have to play a big part in picking the candidates. I remember where I came from......while I'm sure I'll be sorting through lots of underwhelming resumes, I'm not going to jerk anyone around.

Anyway, the first designer will be easy, he's internal here.
