Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : The offical how to use Indesign for Quark users post.
So I'm doing a trifold layout now for a promotion (you can see the cover in the showcase) while using Indesign I'm noticing my limited knowledge of the program so I decided we can make the offical Indesign for Quark users guide so all of us can really stick it to Quark once and for all.
I'm going to need all of your participation to finish this off as a well rounded resource and I'll make this a sticky thread in the resource section once it's refined enough. So for now you can comment, give your wow's and opinions cause Quark your finished!
To start it off I'll drop a few jems:
Get Picture command:
ID= option(alt)+D
Qrk= option(alt)+E
Center content:
ID= Shift+Command+D
Qrk= Shift+Command+M
So GDF lets get this party started!
With such an overwhelming response (that I wasn't even expecting) I have to say that I'll be back after I read all the post.
You know what, you guys are really great. The contribution in this place is unbelievable. Don’t worry I'll weed out all the nonsense post and keep only the guts in here to make it a real reliable resource.
Once again guys thanks!

how do you insert page numbers....????
after you have already made teh pages
JUST LAUNCHED - www.hirethisdesigner.com (http://www.hirethisdesigner.com) - check it out
To add an automatically updated page number:
1. Do one of the following to specify where the page-number marker appears:
* If you want a page number to appear on all pages based on a master, double-click the master in the Pages palette.
* If you want the page number to appear on a specific page only, double-click a page in the top half of the Pages palette.
2. On the master or page, position the type tool* where you want a page number to be added, then drag to create a new text frame large enough to hold the longest instance of the page number and any text you want to appear next to the page number, such as the section marker or document name.
3. With a blinking insertion point positioned in the new text frame, do any of the following:
* Type any text that you want to accompany the page number, such as the document name.
* Use the Insert Section Name command to add custom section marker text, as explained in Defining section numbering.
4. Choose Type > Insert Special Character > Auto Page Number. If the automatic page number is on*a master page, it displays the master page prefix. On a document page, the automatic page number displays the page number. On a pasteboard, it displays PB.
The Auto Page Number command is also available in a context menu under the Insert Special Character command. To see the context menu, position the text insertion point in the page number text frame, and right-click (Windows) or Control+click (Mac OS).

How do you shuffle pages in your layout? I have a master page set up for 5 or six spreads that represent city specific events in the catalog I'm designing. I was banging through the pages, using a word file to fill in text for each event's location, and I got to the end, and noticed that this particular event is out of order chronologically. The problem is the last page is on the right and the place it should go is on the left. When I try, as I would in Quark, to just grab it's thumbnail in the page layout pallette and drag it up to where it should be, it screws my entire document.
At this point, I'm just gonna make a note to the Service Bureau telling them to put page 25 before page 10 when they output film.
Any ideas, guys?
