Well all, I finally figured out a name to re-name my business with:

Blue Sky Design Group.

I bought the domain, have created my business cards (not sent to printer yet), CD covers and part of the brochure already. I'll post things in The Showcase sometime next week. Still playing with the idea of a logo.

And no, there will be NO CLOUDS on ANY of my stuff!

What I plan to do Saturday if its a nice day is take my camera, ride around all these fields and find a nice tree - the image I have is of a large field, empty save for this tree. Some good slogans come to mind with this too.

Thanks for everyone's help - I am EXCITED about my biz for the first time in a long time. :)

I dunno. I have no illegal substances to worry about... but could be in trouble if they ever start testing for caffeine.

Greyghost, if you do any radio or tv commercials you could use that old tune, "Blue Skies (http://www.lyricsfreak.com/i/irving-berlin/68097.html)" by Irving Berlin.

Nice subtle name. Maybe you can talk to Willie Nelson about getting rights for your theme song.

Greyghost, how did you come to the name Blue Sky Design? What's your idea or concept behind this?

I teach graphic design and thought it'd be interesting to hear you design/thought process. It'd be nice to hear professionals talk about ideas rather then college students. :)

or not...

Yes, I want the critiques!

The general idea is this: I'm good at print advertising, logos - anything print-related, really. But I stink at web, and forget illustration.

So I hope to have a few artists *cough* anybody from GDF? *cough* that I can outsource to get those things done, and look like a bigger fish and get away from these little mom-and-pops and their "my nephew" excuses. I do have a good illustrator and a wet-behind the ears web artist who does very well and is very fast at coding whatever I design up.

Hence the "group" part of the name.

Cool Cool. Well if you ever need any further illustration or storyboarding help ever, let me know! :) Got a slew of various Illustration styles.

A lot of sleepless nights fretting about needing to take things up a notch because your spouse is quitting his job helps... lol.

I was trying to sleep Tuesday night, thinking of a name that would sound professional, but still be easy to remember, something that wouldn't make people refer to me (as a businessowner friend in town put it) as "that girl from Summerville." (I'm almost 30, but people still guess my age at 19 at first)

So I thought of "Innovative" - well every dotcom with "innovative" and anything to do with graphics was taken. So I went to the online thesarus and wrote down words that were similar but yet expressed what I wanted. Somewhere near the bottom was an entry for "blue sky" which I immediately liked, tried to find out how the heck "blue sky" came up with "innovative" but didn't.

I also almost instantaneously thought of that image of a field, and a distinctive looking tree in the field. Typed in a few tries for "blue sky" and graphic names, and "blueskydesigngroup.com" was available.

I slept on it. I said it aloud a few times, I asked a graphic designer friend of mine, two non-graphics friends of the middle-age and up group that have their own businesses, one male one female, and it got approval ratings.

What I like too - is that it fits "me" - I have always loved open spaces, trees, farms (I really want a small farm one day). So having that image that I intend to smear EVERYWHERE is like dangling a carrot in front of me - thats my goal, to afford that land. And yet, as Morea pointed out, it would have a calming effect on clients - who in my experience are stressed and busy and don't get outside much.

Good for you, greyghost! You know, you could use the dual purpose tagline:

'Out Standing in the Field.' :D

Cute! I like it I like it.

I was thinking too - "be different" "stand up, stand out" "watch your business grow"

I like the name Greyghost, definitely stands out and doesn't sound like run of the mill. I can think of alot of things you could do with the whole tree thing. The possiblities are endless, and if you find a unique looking tree that would help even more with standing out. Good Luck and post your business cards and stuffonce they are finished we would like to see them.
