I'm considering bringing this up to the boss since we're having so many problems getting our HP laser printer to produce proper Pantone or even CMYK equivalents. Think I should spend mine and the company's time on this seminar? Anyone else going?

If you have no one to teach you color management then the price is right. Even learning a little is a big help.
Not sure about the Huey. First I've heard of it.
As for your laser printer, unless you've profiled the paper you are feeding into it and you keep the paper and the room conditions constant, good luck getting it calibrated. You have to remember that some PMS colors are out of gamut on all printers. And those OOG colors vary from printer to printer.
