I'm an in-house designer, in a small business (30-40 employees) so this means a variety of things...I need to be an all around type of person, production, designer, even handle some grunt work.

One of the tasks handed to me last month was a newsletter...8 pages, my first such project. Now this newsletter was a transitional piece, it was the first one to be fully designed in Indesign, since I dont know pagemaker, It was soley my project, and it was the largest mailing this company has ever done...30 Thousand pieces...Thank yee very much!

So Up to speed now...the prez just got back from the Atlanta Gift Show, and he just came over to the art dept and looks at my boss, the copywriter, then me, because this piece was my baby for two weeks, he said

"This last Newsletter was the most successful, the most well recieved, and the best newsletter we've ever done."

This means...the advertisments, the layout, and the whole package just wowed the customers, and drove up interest and bookings...

I'm as happy as a peacock, strutting about. Now That is why I choose design. Using the talents God gave me in such a great piece.

*strut strut...arent my feathers pretty*

Congratulations! Projects like that make it all worthwhile. Nice boss to give you a compliment like that. Hope he said it loudly in front of a lot of people! ;)

Yeah, congrats. And what a good boss you have for recognizing the work you did. A pat on the back is a good thing but a raise is alot better. I noticed you said gift show, is the company you work for in promotional products? I work for a small promotional products company as well, much smaller only 8 people and I am the only artist so I handle all the graphics and many other tasks.

Actually we do inprinting and set up our onsite printing programs in stationery stores...a lot like crane company and papyrus. We also have a line of childrens gift stationery.

We'll be prepping for the large NSS show in may soon, that'll mean some long nights. :o

I've got an exciting project coming up that I hope results in some strutting. Through networking with a local carton printer, I landed a nice freelance job for a major corporation. Am doing the Art Direction and package graphics for a ready made pasta salad that will be test marketed in their retail locations. Photo shoot coming up next week.

way to go! there's nothing like getting praised like that from the higher ups. I once got an email from the owner of my company with the subject: HP 4730 advertisement and the body read: "Kick Ass!" I was on cloud 9 all morning!

Congrats, Dro! Man, it's good to see that there are bosses who pass kudos on to where they are due.

"Nice feathers, indeed!" :D

I thought this was going to be about something else when I saw "another notch for the belt"...thought Dro was a perv or something. ;)

That's awesome. It's always nice to get your hard work noticed, and that momentum is something you can use to ride upon to the next highest plateau.
