Okay, I saved the first section of my book to press ready pdf (export>pdf from InDesign). It took an hour and a half to create. I'm SURE I saved it to the desktop, but I can't find it ANYWHERE!!! I searched the computer for all docs labeled .pdf and it doesn't show anywhere on my computer or the network.

WTF??? :eek::eek::eek:

go thru the export process again...not completely...but in the save dialog box it should go to the last place you were saving to I think

Thanks... I did that, no luck. So, I set it up to run again over night, carefully noted where it was going to... and guess what? It went throught the entire process, and PRODUCED NO FILE. AGAIN.

What's going on here?

InDesign PDF Export (per my printers specs), the document is 139 pages long. Is it just too big? Or... ? I'll try exporting smaller sections. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in!

Okay. InDesign will NOT export even ONE page to pdf. Which is very odd, because it DID yesterday. It goes through the motion, but produces NOTHING.

I don't understand!

hmm your sending a pdf of 139 pages to a printer...ouch...Might be easier to collect for output and burn a disc to mail

I agree... the entire job is actually 280 pages. But they WANT pdf and not native files. I may have to print to postscript and then distill it (which is what I would normally do) but they gave me settings for InDesign export, so I was trying to do it THEIR way...

Okay, I got one page to export. One page, exported to pdf, per their settings is 6.7mb. If every page in that 139 pg doc is 6.7mb, that's almost 1gb in pdf file... :eek:

Maybe it's just to friggin' big to export.

Yep. Just too big.
I'm exporting 23 pages at a time, so far I have files that are 250-350mb each. Yikes!

Have you tried printing to a .ps file and then using the distiller instead of exporting directly to pdf?

Ya, that was going to be my back-up plan. It just would've taken twice as long (to first print, and then distill, the file is so big).

I got it work the way the printer wanted me to do it, but I had to export it 25 pages at a time.

Yeah. I've had the same problem with creating pdfs in OSX through distiller, or directly from InDesign or Illustrator. I found that choosing the desktop as your destination is a bad idea - as for some reason it doesn't appear on the desktop for quite some time, if at all. Large pdf files are more prone to disappear into the desktop twighlight zone than smaller ones. My solution - create a folder on the desktop into which your pdfs will go, for some reason, it works.
