Indesign drop-shadow and invisible master itemns

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, but so far it seems like a great resource.

I've got two indesign questions I'm hopin someone might be able to help me with.

The drop-shadow function is causing my printers some hair-tearing in the rip - is there a known bug with this feature of Indesign? and if so are there any known fixes? (apart from making the drop-shadow as a separate object and placing it manually)

Also I've had some problems with master page itemns appearingon pdfs and print-outs that can'tbe seen on the page in indesign or anywhere apart from the print and the pdf. Only way I've foundto fix it is to lift everything of the page and make a new document. The master page itemn is a text box that says 'full page ad by', and it's even appearing onpages whos master doesn't contain this itemn. Don't know if this makes any sense to anyone.

are you shadowing a linked file?
if so, try doing it in the root file

my printer told me they have issues with drop shadows that are placed in ID.

The answers are all here. A lot of your printers' problems are probably coming from your pdf files. Your printers gotta learn to read and experiment. They can't be afraid to go to the Adobe site and ask the search engine stupid questions.

Because of the many different rips used in grande format we ALWAYS ask for native files.

Thanks for the links. I have forwarded them to my printers, don't know how much it will help as they are chinese and not that fluent in the old english. Guess I will read them myself and see if I can find a way to do the pdfs that won't cause any grief for them.

Well, yes there are some 'interesting' cultural confusion moments when working with the Chinese. Most of the work my company does is directed towards China, and the Peoples Republic of China demand that if you do business in China you got to spend your money in China. E.g. if you want to publish in China you got to print in China.


But the Chinese printers are good, not used to Indesign yet, but hey who is... The worst problems I've ever had with printers is when we outsourced our European publications to Poland - what a nightmare. Supposedly high-quality glossy magazines that made your hands as black as if you were reading a low-quality newspaper print.

Sorry PD and Cav. I haven't run into any master page mishaps but drop shadows - yes - always. I do the workaround method too.
