Hi guys,
Anyone have any good solutions they use for content management, allowing the client to update certain areas on their site like news page or whatever? Presumably there are some off-the-shelf systems around - anyone use any? (I'm thinking of something they access from the browser)
Thanks

I used to use a nice little news thing for a site. It uses PHP: http://web.langame.net/air/

we usually offer a discounted rate for updating sites we've made for clients

Alot of clients are demanding to update the content on their sites now. This involves creating aContent Management System (CMS) . Many design studios/firms create their own CMS, just becuase they're familiar with their own system, and it'll be easier to modify it for each client that requests to manage their own content or images on their site.
There are many CMS out there even open source such as Mambo CMS(http://www.mamboserver.com/) but does it meet the client's expectations can you modify this system or sometimes its just too much just to try to under stand someone elses coding.
For graphic designers its best to find a programmer to code a simple CMS to meet their client's expectations.

OK thanks. I looked at cutenews and it seems pretty good. Only thing is I think the clients may want to be able to change things from a few different areas of the site, not only a 'news' area. So I might need a fuller CMS. I am checking out Mambo now. I think eventually I want to try making my own as you suggest. Seems like a fun idea.

For news, CuteNews is great. You can even modify the templates to use it for articles and stuff. But for anything more you will probably have to go with Mambo.

If only content changes to the page are required check out contribute:
www.macromedia.com/software/contribute/?promoid=home_prod_contribute_082403 (http://www.macromedia.com/software/contribute/?promoid=home_prod_contribute_082403)
It allows the end user to change all the content they want but not to mess with the design of the page. They can't even see the HTML code.
