ID.... finally

OK, we're finally getting InDesign in about 2 weeks (i know, that took a REALLY long time... if you remember my last ID thread).


So I was wondering who out there uses ID? I'm sure I'll have questions as I'm the only person in this joint who'll really be using it. Just wondering who I should seek out...


though I'll probably just post them all here anyway...


edit: I've used ID before, but only for the last3 or 4weeks of my previous job and that was when it was first released.

I was thinking about switching printers just so I could use Indesign.



But I just got quark 6 and I don't know what to do. I'll test Indesign out at home as much as possible. When I get a chance I'll do the same here.



All I can say so far is that importing images with transparencys is off the freaking chain!!!

Advanced typo features... hangin punctuation!

Optical kerning looks great <--saves ton of time!

Guides are lockable and Precise.

...and it can even open old Quark documents.

Seeing as most of my "typographical" print material has mostly been a single page, I rely on Corel Draw and Illustrator.


I have Pagemaker 7 but have not used it much. InDesign is cost prohibitive for me at the moment.Is InDesign being supported by commercial printers? Last time I had to print something, Illustrator or Quark were it.


Cross platform problems come up also since our company was PC (Windows) based.


Has anyone else come up with these kinds of problems? No InDesign support. Cross Platform font issues?

If you need to run InDesign files on both Windows and Mac, then stick to OpenType fonts and you should have no problem at all.

As for support from the printers, that is rapidly changing. In Dallas, I did a brochure job with InDesign 2 on the PC about a month ago, and a local printer had purchased InDesign about three or four months ago and they love it...and that was the first printer I checked.

Since InDesign is making such a fast inroad into the graphics business, I suspect this will not be a problem for long. If *your* printer says 'we don't take InDesign files' and won't work with high-res PDF, tell them *gently* that you will seek another printer who will.

That should get some attention!

Don't bet on it.
And why be limited to OpenType.
If yer gonna mix PC and Mac go all out.
Seriously though, watch your text very carefully if attempting PC fonts on a Mac.
