So it's been five long computerless days, Windows decided it didn't what to boot anymore giving me quite the scare. Luckily I ended up not loosing any files, and finally got the push I need to get myself a new computer, so here's my new set up.

So what's been going down, I miss anything exciting?

Wondered where those yellow cookies had gone to. Thought maybe ya choked on them or something. Great luck about not losing any files. Do you do scheduled backups?

Looks cool love the dual monitors. What did you end up getting? You definitely have to check out some of the threads you missed, some pretty funny stuff, and some good info also.

Bad bad bad bad Neb!

Is that a power strip I see? Those are not surge protectors, nor will they stop a surge from destroying your machine, you could lose everything with those power strips, you might want to upgrade to a surge protector, and oh, dont daisy chain surge protectors either, its a code violation.

Um. Nice wiring system, looks like your ready to start a campfire with that. :p

Mine looks bad also, but invest in that surge protector and get a good one too.

You should see the wiring setups they do here at work. From telecom, to contact panels (for large quantity of lights), to electrical panels. They use the labeling system very seriously. they take one end they are feeding, and label it (use a brother labeler), then feed it through, connect it and tuck it in a nice compact spacing (very nicely compact tuck).

On the surge protectors, I would urge you get those quickly. I would hate to see you lose all the stuff you have worked on, forever.

Aw Neb, I just went through the same thing!
One of mine, the main one, started acting goofy three weeks ago. Took it into the shop, waited 3 days "nope, nothin wrong with it" a few days later it was running too hard - so I saved everything on CDs and the external hard drive, and last week wiped the thing clear and re-installed windows, just in case it was a virus that none of my software was catching in scans.

Still acting bad... now sometimes it gets stuck on a reboot, and other times you reboot and have no sound, other times it says it can't find the external hard drive... so Tuesday I bought me a new one. One that ain't never touching the Internet... and so far the old one hasn't crapped out yet either.

Sometime I'll post my set-up - but right now, everything is too messy.

and $5000 later I'd have a system comparible to what I have now for $500. :D

Not a bad system for 600.00

not sure I like the graphics card, nor the xp media center edition (heared bad things about it).

I am curious to know the part brand names they used, like the hard drive, motherboard, and ram.

I'm not sure about the media center either. But i guess we'll have to wait and see. Oh and it was $500 - mail in rebates. :D

That system is marginally faster than the 2.0 ghz iMac for $1800, not $5000. And that's without a monitor (the 20" iMac monitor is worth at least $400).

With that said, you found one hell of a deal on that system, neballer.

edit: Actually that's the single core Athlon. The Core Duo actually specs higher in testing. Sorry to rant but I get tired of the "$5000 Mac myth". Still, great deal on that system.

$1800(iMac) + $400(monitor) +$1200(Creative Suite Premium) + $1000(studio 8) = $4400. Sorry, I was $600 dollars off. :D

Uh, the iMac comes with the monitor. And you also have to pay for Studio for a PC, right? Same with CS last time I checked...

So your "$500" PC jumped to $3200 using your math ($500 PC, $100 vid card, $400 monitor, $1200 CS, $1000 Studio 8) versus $4000 for the iMac with better specs.

And if you want to get into adding things like mouse, keyboard, etc... Though in all fairness most of us have that equipment already.

My point was that If I switched to a mac I would also need to re-buy all of the programs I currently have for my PC, thus adding to it's final cost.

Ah, okay, fair enough. I misunderstood you.

That system you bought is tempting me... I bought this Core Duo to replace my PC with the expectation that some geek would figure out a way to get XP on it... That hasn't happened yet.

I like games. I want Windows, dammit! My old PC is being turned into a Linux server!
