Hello, After months of "not having enough time to sign up" I am glad to now be a member of graphic design forums, I look forward to learning from everyone as well as sharing my knowledge. I am posting here today for comments on my new portfolio site and Identity. Any and all comments welcome.

Hi Burton, welcome aboard!
Your site is great -- just a couple of comments. One, I don't like to click on .pdf documents when I'm surfing the web, so I didn't do that. And, what size monitor is this designed for? I am actually sitting at a small monitor right now, but the browser setting is 1024x768 ... and I had to scroll up and down to see your site.

burton,
welcome to the forum!
first of all, why is your site made in flash? its not serving any purpose, other than making everything slower than it needs to be.
second, why do you need an intro page? it doesnt have anything of merit communicated on it. its simply one more page your viewer has to click thru.
third, the entire layout doesnt seem to have any rhyme or reason. everything simply looks slapped on, with no relationship to anything else. it looks really unprofessional to be honest.
fourth, why do you have two other languages that are only located on the home page? that doesnt do anyone any good unless you have seperate sections of your website that are dedicated to those languages.
fifth, the navigation is really poor.
sixth, when i clicked on the first image in your portfolio, it sent me to another website. is that a mistake? all your work should be on your site, and your site alone.
seventh, your logo is suffering. its just a simple ligature centered over a boring typeface. it seriously lacks creativity assiociated with a graphic designer. it needs a serious overhaul.
eighth, the lead-in copy on your home page is kinda cheesey. sometimes cheesey can be okay, but not in this situation. it feels like a bad poem or joke.
those were my first thoughts. basically i think the whole website and logo needs to be scrapped and rethought. but thats just one persons opinion. i hope that gave you some things to think about. again, welcome!

wow yeah, I didn't even realize that you could click and more stuff would come up. You've got some mystery meat navigation going on, your site needs to be reworked with usability considerations in mind.
Back. "Untitled Document" is something you need to fix as well.

OK, i go shoot myself now. I have an interview tomorrow. and my whole identity seems to be garbage
P.S. - The "previous" and "next" buttons navigate through the portfolio pieces, Some pieces are clickable to external links.
Do *you* think your identity is garbage? I certainly don't. Does your site have usablility concerns? Frankly, yes. You should never, ever have to explain how to navigate through a website.
Good luck on your interview tomorrow, let us know how it goes.

the whole intro thing was the worst IMO, there is no need for that slow long intro. And there is so many places to click, there navagation is kind of left up in the air, like has been said the type is hard to read, and everything is kind of busy with all the other elements floating around the pages.
You have some solid work in there just gotta work out your navigation, and readability
Good luck with your interview
I will have to agree with the other posters in this thread. This is a go-go-go world and employers don't have the time to wait through the painfully slow transitions between your intro screens. You have some really good work in your portfolio (a couple filler pieces though) and your site should focus on the work. It took me longer to poke around through your intros than it did to flip through your portfolio.
Good luck on your interview and welcome to the forum. Your initial experience here may have been a bit rough but there are a lot of talented people around here and a ton of information, stick around.
