Just answered a call from an obvious telemarketer. As he started his schpiel...I asked him to hold on. I set the phone down next to my keyboard and periodically lifted it back up to ask if he was still there?...still on?....still waiting? etc while going through the forum posts...until he finally got the message and hung up.
Okay, so it is cheap entertainment.:p

Ha! That's bad!!
Of course you realize he is calling up all his Telemarketing buddies to find away to get you back. So don't be surprised if you get more calls and even some during the wee hours of the night. Bwwahhhaa!

You should download some answering machine sound clips (http://www.ilovewavs.com/comedy/AnsMach/AnsMach.htm), and get them ready for the telemarketing.
I liked the: Monty Python - Alzheimer Answering Machine.wav, but sad part about that, is before voice mail, I had that on the answering machine, when I was waiting for calls to come in for a job, the guy who called thought that he got the wrong number. I managed to get the call, and go in for a 2nd interview, and explained, the Interviewer just laughed. (I got the job at the time too.)
EDIT* I also dialed a number and got that recording for a wrong number, recorded that message, and I set the ring pickup to 2, and I never got any messages for a while, because I put a long pause after the recording. I should have recorded it 2-3x's so the telemarketers would get the hint. lol

I talk like a pirate when I answer the phone and its a telemarketer, it makes for great entertainment. Cracks my wife up.
Hey logo-mechanics, I'm currently hiring for a receptionist position. I think you'd be perfect! What are your salary requirements anyway? lol

Nothing wrong with that at all. I have done that before; that tactic actually helps reduces the amount of time that the telemarketers have to call other people, so you did a duty ;)

I've done that before, Vikia. Almost to a tee. They could even hear me typing away.
On another, I could tell it was going to be a looooong speech. So I set the phone down and let him talktalktalktalktalk - OMG it was several minutes before I heard him stop, pause, and say "ma'am?" (don't EVER call me "ma'am"!!!). Then there was "hello?" "Um, are you still there, ma'am?"
So I picked it up and said "Oh yes, sorry I was distracted with some work I'm doing. Please go on" and set the thing back down again. It was another five minutes before he finally realized he was being played with and hung up.

you know what ive always wanted to do, call up a help line or some credit card company's customer service line and wait till i actually got an agent on the phone and after he says "how can i help you" say "due to unexpected and frequent frustration from waiting your caller is busy taking other calls, he will get back to you as soon as possible." Or just say "Please hold" and put the phone next to a radio with elevator like music on it. LOL
that would make my day.
