Hi everyone,

I'm just want to know how do illustrators charge for doing illustrations for publication companies? I myself am a GD and I'm doing this behalf of my friend who is a illustrator who is unsure of how to charge clients?

Is it the same as GD?

size, colour, type of print, etc etc? or is it different.

Please help and much thanks in advance for any comments.

I figure out how long it will take me and then apply my rate per hour and thats the price.

That is the way I do it also. Hourly price plus costs if there are any.

I charge by the size and complexity of the piece.
That may translate into hourly but not as a consistant figure.

For illustration I also factor in the time it will take to dig up photo reference. For instance right now I am working on a BMX design for a t-shirt, now I know what a BMX bike looks, I even raced them when I was a kid. But if you want it to look realistic you need photo reference and it takes time to come up with that.
