I am currently doing a project and would like to utilize out side sources to gain my audiences attention.

However, my outside sources revolve around knowledge which I obtained through a book.

To be more specific I am designing a childrens menu for a restuarent- school project.

My theme makes appropriate the introduction of including astronomy.

What I would like to do is include the knowledge I obtained when reading this book on the menu as a way to intrique the viewer.

I would not be directly copying information and illustrations.

Only using the information rpesent to form my own.

However, even though I am creating my own illustrations and paraphrasing information would I still need to include due credit since, I obtained the information out of a book origionally or is this unnesseccary unless I directly copy information- in which case I would also need permission from the auther and illsutrator- I assume.

The reason I bring this question to mind is that the information is found out of a book and generally it would be appropriate to include credit to the those the information was derived from evn when paraphrasing- theretically in a paper.

So is it nessecarry to include some type of credit to the auther of were I found the origional information and gained the knowledge about what it is I want to include through paraphrasing in the design?

By the way- the information included is going to be factual- not an opinion.

since it's for school, most instructors want you to document your all your sources...in real life i think it depends on the information...direct quotes/use of illustrations, credit the original author...paraphrasing, probably not...if it's pretty common knowledge, not...for a children's menu i don't imagine it's too technical/in depth to be considered common knowledge...just thoughts

can you verify the information you want to include from at least 2 other sources? Public domain, etc?

Does that make a difference?

The information is nothing of scientific excellence and I'm sure it can be found on the internet.

I just lack trust in information found via the web.

Furthermore, generally all the stuff you find the web was derived from a book when taliking about facts and most websites don't site specifics of were they found that information.

However, does that make it appropriate for me to do the same even though the information can be found in other places and is not anything of "scientific" excellence?

Its not that I can't use outside sources in this assignment that i ask but, more so respecting others and if that respect is deemed nesecarry in regards to a credit.

and... if it is nesecarry Then I will be sure to include it however, if it is not then I rather not fill of the page with useless information my target audience would not care hear.

I am just wondering if it is something basic like "our solar system has 9 planets" that is typically considered "common knowledge" because in that case I don't believe you need to credit a specific source.

If, however, it is something more "in depth", you would probably have to.
