welcome to the forum, matty. How's your sense of humor?
We get a lot of posts here from people looking for work, and it reminds me of this anecdote:
________________________________________________
A young design graduate, fresh out of uni and knowing everything, applied for his first job. The prospective employer asked him what starting salary he was looking for.
"Oh, around $100,000 a year, depending on the benefits package."
"Well, how does this sound? Five weeks annual leave, 22.5% superannuation, paid expenses to overseas conferences every year, home telephone reimbursed and a company car replaced every 20,000 kilometres, say a Mercedes convertible."
The graduate sat up straight and tried not to look excited. "Wow. Are you kidding?"
"Yeah. But you started it."

ok, seriously. There are a lot of people here who are looking for work, and your best bet is probably to pound the pavement in the area where you want to work. Stop in and ask to speak to the art directors. Mail letters requesting informational interviews. There are a lot of networking strategies you can use to help you find a job, but the most important is to be patient, not get discouraged, and keep at it.
I have assembled quite an extensive list of job search information on our "frequently discussed topics" thread, which you can find here (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7892).
Best of luck!

Even I know where Leeds is. Inspector, Morea is right whatever you do don't get discouraged and give up, because it may take awhile. Don't forget to look into prepress, its not glamorous and usually not very creative but the experience you gain will help you down the road and it will pay the bills at least. Good luck.
It's where The Who recorded their "Live at Leeds" Album. http://home.comcast.net/~rnick9/koolsmiley.gif

Leeds, along with Manchester, was once the seat of the textile industry.

I've spent a lot of time in Bradford too. It's hard to decide which is worse, Huddersfield or Bradford?
