Style, I can't remember if you're on a Mac or a PC. Doesn't really matter.
The most important thing to remember is that you cannot backsave text easily. As an experiment, make an Illy CS file with text and Export it to Legacy (you can't 'save as' to get to version 8,9,10 you have to export). Then open it in your old version of Illy. Text hard to edit, huh.
If you open an old Adobe file in CS it will ask you if you want to convert it. If you say yes, it will save the file with the word Converted in the filename. I highly recommend that you do not disable this feature. It prevents overwriting of your original file with the new type engine.
InDesignCS is not back compatible to InD 2 so be careful there too.
Ask away. I'm no pro either.

okay question one!:
this new 3d thing in ill.. does it transfer well to other programs? is it like a normal shaper etc.. so that when it comes to printing it will print normal?!
(thanks in advance!)

Oh, so you go right to the new stuff huh.
I've only had print tests done on the extrusion and bevelling of text.
It prints normal. But what do YOU mean by normal?
You will get some very inconsistent results if you try to extrude or warp multiple objects as a group.
You also have to jump thru many, many hurdles to make that extruded text into a file I could use for vector art. My only hint is 'Expand'. You can figure it out from there.
But once you expand, you can no longer use the attributes palette to edit the shape.
As for transferring to other programs, like what? an eps to Quark or InD? yup. fine.

Oh, color.
Well, the Extrude function creates it's own shades of color on the sides and bottom of the object. We haven't quite figured out how a designer can specify those yet without us taking the file apart. For a while you may have to settle for your PMS on the lit side and whatever happens on the darker sides. But we are working on it. In large format. Don't know what the 4-color guys will tell you.

Select the text tool
Hold command (Apple) and click on the text box.
You did create your text boxes with the text tool by click, hold and dragging right?
You can't just make a box with the box tool.

yeh i know... i did that... i just did it the opp way.. i did it by creating box, and then selecting the text option for content!
but i did that on the master pages... on the master pages i can add as much text as i want, but on the normal pages for some reason i can only add text to the boxes by selecting. file. place. and then placing text from a file! WIERD! :-/
