I'm back folks. After a few weeks of nothing I have 2 for ya. One new one and one DVD...well actually I'll give you 2 DVD releases. Let's go...
The Terminal
It's Tom Hanks and Steven Speilberg... has to be great right? Well..... it's not bad. But given the talent it's a little lackluster and corny.
Hanks is Victor Navorski and he is from this little country called Karposhi (not sure if it actually is real or not). Well Victor is on his way to New York City to fullfill a promise he made to his, now dead, father. What that is, I will not spoil for anyone going to see this. While enroute to NYC it seems that Karposhi's government was overthrown by some rebels. So the US no longer sees it as a country. Victors passport is denied but he can not fly back to his home country cause...well it technically doesn't exsist anymore. So he is stuck at the Terminal at JFK. He cannot leave. He ends up living at Gate 67 and annoying the HLS dictector, played by Stanley Tucci. Of course Tucci is going for a big promotion so you know that comes into play on how he treats Victor. Catherine Zeta Jones plays a flight attendant Emily who befriends Victor and begins a semi romantic relationship with him.
Now it isn't bad... just a little silly. This man is stuck in this Terminal for what I think ends up being 9 months. He befriends just about everyone who works there. But, in this day and age he seems to pass through a lot of security checkpoints fairly easily. A little unbeleivable. Also he tends to work on stuff at night in the Terminal using their tools and no one notices or says a thing. A little weird. But hey, it's a movie.. or is it? This is actually based on a true story. The cast of characters is entertaining and the way Victor gets some money is clever (he gathers up the unreturned luggage carts and gets the quarter deposits back). But it gets very sappy at the end. Not one of Speilberg's or Hank's best.
It's Ok... wait for the DVD.
Now onto the DVDs
Paycheck
Same idea as Minority Report, Blade Runner, etc. A little bit in the future, some conspiracy, a lot of chasing. This does it well and doesn't break the mold but follows it to the tee.
Ben Affleck is what they call a reverse engineer. He is hired by companies to basically take a product, go through it, see what makes it tick and then rebuild it better. After that is done his memory is wiped out so he has no knowledge of this whole process. Most jobs take a few weeks or months, but he is then asked for the mother of all jobs and all paychecks. This will take him 2-3 years. During that time he falls in love with Uma Thurman (who I don't think is attractive at all). We can all figure out that something is wrong with that project he just worked on. The mystery is pretty good actually. He sends himself these normal items (like hairspray, a quarter, fortune cookie message, etc) but of course he has no idea why cause his memory of the last 3 years is gone. He also finds out that he has forgone his 6 figure paycheck. So the chase begins figuring out what these items means and how they play into all this.
It's actually a pretty decent flick, especially the mystery. The action is good, John Woo directed. He is known for this stuff. The payoff at the end is very well done and clever. Not really much else I can say without ruining it... but rent it.
Cool Poop.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Jessica Beils boobs are great in this. Really, she has such nice hooters. Best wife beater wearer since Helen Hunt in Twister. Now this is a remake on the 74 classic. But it is a loosely based one. Sure the canibal family is still there, the scared teens. But it is more slasher flick then the psychological thriller that the original was.
Teens on their way to a Skynard concert, in Texas (it is based in 73) find a girl in the road and she is freaking out. Well she ends up blowing her head off and this is where the fun starts. Typically they fall into the wrong place at the wrong time.
For a slasher flick.. it's one of the best in a long time. Very freaky and a lot of jump out scenes. R. Lee Emery (the drill sargent in Full Metal Jacket) is the town 'Sheriff'. He is by far the best character. Even over Leatherface, only because Leatherface is a one dimensional character. He kills and that's it.
I know it's an update but I was a little dissapointed that they didn't have the famous dinner scene that was in the original. That is one of the freakiest scenes in horror movie history and seems like a bad one to leave out.
But like i said as a horror/slasher flick it does it's job well. alot of screaming, a lot of running and a lot of dying.
Cool poop for sure. Jessica Beil's boobs are AWESOME.
This weekend is movie weekend. After 2 weeks of go go go I plan on relaxing and catching up on some movies. Dodgeball for one and hopefully Riddick.
